Robert Eugene Engebretson, 79, of Sturgeon Bay passed away at his home Jan. 14, 2010.
He was born June 10, 1930, in Black River Falls to Engebret and Irene (Gilbertson) Engebretson. Robert married Joan Grandinetti June 5, 1954, in Barron; she preceded him in death Nov. 30, 2006.
Robert graduated from Black River Falls High School in 1948. He later graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and received his Master’s degree in art education from the University of Minnesota. Bob served his country in the United States Army from 1952-1954.
Bob taught school in New Richmond and then for the Oil Company School in Tripoli, Libya, North Africa. He then was the audio-visual director for the Sturgeon Bay Public School System for many years.
Bob was a member of the Sons of Norway and a past member of the Door Drifters Snowmobile Club. After retirement, Bob enjoyed traveling, taking cruises and visiting family and friends around the country. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include two children, Matt (Judy) Engebretson, Sturgeon Bay and Liesl (Jeff) Larson, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Marcus LuMaye and Lucus Engebretson and Lars, Lief and Alex Larson; one brother, James (Audrey) Engebretson, GA; and one sister, Solveig (Richard) Kleppe, MN.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at Bay View Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Timothy Malek officiating and burial was in Bayside Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the Forbes Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Robert’s name.
