Becker, Jean A. (13 August 1932 – 15 February 2010)

Jean A. Becker, 77, of rural Taylor died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at her winter residence in Plant City, FL.

Jean was born Aug. 13, 1932, to parents Donavon and Emily (Patterson) Becker in Curran Township, Jackson County.  She grew up on a farm in Springfield Township, Jackson County, and graduated from Taylor High School.

Jean trained to be a registered nurse at Milwaukee Lutheran Hospital.  Following her graduation, it was her desire to work in an underserved area of the country.  She moved to Hyden, KY, where she worked as a nurse for seven years, at times traveling by horseback in the course of her work.  She also spent some years working as an emergency room nurse in Denver, CO.  She was a nursing supervisor in Plant City, FL, until her father became ill, and in 1973 she moved back to Taylor to care for him until his death.  She eventually returned to nursing in Florida, filling in for nursing staff on a part-time basis even after her retirement.

She was a member of several professional nursing associations.  She loved growing up on the farm in rural Taylor and riding her horse.  She was a wonderful, quiet person who greatly enjoyed reading books and helping people.  She will be greatly missed.

Jean is survived by Cousins Rita (Robert) Tichy of Marshfield, Ray (Lois) Becker of Blair, Lois Becker-Gray of Baraboo and Connie Patterson of Alma Center besides additional cousins and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Jean A. Becker took place at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at the Hixton United Methodist Church with Reverend Meg Erickson officiating.  Burial took place in Sechlerville Cemetery, rural Hixton. Friends called one hour prior to services at the church.

Casketbearers were Dan Schultz, Ben Schultz, John Curran, Tim Bieneck, Michael Bohlman and Tom Bush.

The Jensen- Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton, assisted the family.
