North Branch Store (Fire – 20 July 1958)
Damage estimated by the owner at $10,000 resulted when the North Branch Store, three miles west of Alma Center in Jackson County, was razed by fire early Sunday morning. The loss included fixtures and stock.
George Cleary, 45, owner said the fire might have been caused by a chair cushion which had caught fire Saturday night. He said the fire was believed extinguished, and the cushion was placed outside on a cement platform near the store building.
