Blood Bank Donors (2010)
The Jackson County Blood Drive held Feb. 10 at the American Legion was supported by 75 donors from the community. Blood is needed, as the winter-month donations are down due to winter illnesses and weather conditions. The Red Cross staff recommends potential donors drink plenty of fluids and eat iron rich foods (fruits, especially raisins and red meats, especially liver) beginning the day before blood drive. This will help the body meet the requirements for giving blood.
The following people completed gallon donations: Vione Brauner – 16 gals, Adam Nichols – 1 gal, David Dolsey – 5 gals and Joanne Adsen – 2 gals. To date, Joe Brauner has donated 26 gallons.
The success of the blood drive is also attributed to the American Legion for the use of the building, to the Partners of the Black River Memorial Hospital for supporting the drive monetarily, the Snow Creek Homemakers for providing lunch for the workers, the various forms of media for helping to advertise the drive and the many workers who volunteer their afternoon for this important event.
The next Jackson County Blood Drive will be Wednesday, April 28, and will be back at the National Guard Armory.
