Hardin, Mildred (30 January 1919 – 10 December 2009)
Mildred Birkmose Hardin, 90, of Hudson died Dec. 20, 2009, at Hudson Hospital.
Mildred was born Jan. 30, 1919, in Hudson to Rudolf and Lillian (Johnson) Birkmose. She attended the Hudson schools, graduating with honors in the Class of 1937. Mildred then attended River Falls State Teachers College and earned a degree in mathematics and science. She taught in the Black River Falls Junior High School during the 1942-23 school year.
She joined the Army Air Corps as a civilian employee in the support of the war effort, designing and testing advanced radio communications equipment at Wright Patterson Field in Dayton, OH.
Mildred married Harvey H. Hardin Dec. 19, 1946, and lived in Keithsburg, IL. Harvey died in 1957, and Mildred and her children moved back to Hudson. She was active in the Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school many years. She was also active in Girl Scouts as a leader and founding member of the Hudson Chapter of the American Association of University Women.
Mildred is survived by her five children, Maren (James) Gebhard of River Falls, Richard (Cheryl) Hardin of Athens, GA, David (Carol) Hardin of Hudson, Joelyn (Terry) Van Domelen of Appleton and Janelle (Daniel) Lemke of Cokato, MN; a sister, Francis Birkmose of Hudson; two nieces and a nephew; 10 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey, and a brother, Chester.
Services were held Dec. 21 at the First Presbyterian Church in Hudson with burial in Willow River Cemetery.
