Voskuil, Audrey (20 November 1923 – 27 December 2009) With Flag
Audrey A. Voskuil, 86, of Black River Falls died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC) in Tomah.
She was born Nov. 20, 1923, in Green Bay and graduated from Green Bay West High School in 1942. She attended the University of Wisconsin Extension in Green Bay and one semester in Madison.
After high school, Audrey did clerical work at International Harvester in Green Bay, and then she enlisted in the WAVES.
She had duty in San Francisco as storekeeper 2nd class in supply, expediting supplies between Navy yards, supply depots and ships in the Pacific Ocean. After her discharge, she worked at Northwest Engineering in Green Bay.
Audrey married Glenn J. Voskuil Dec. 28, 1946, in Green Bay. The couple moved to Black River Falls in 1952.
Audrey worked at H. H. Van Gorden until she and her husband purchased the former Taylor & Jones, a retail department store, in downtown Black River Falls. They operated the business for 20 years.
She was also employed at the Black River Falls City Hall and the Black River Falls Public Library for the next 10 years before retiring. She was a seamstress for many years.
Audrey was a member of the Black River Falls United Methodist Church, the Order of Eastern Star since 1943, a quilting club and numerous bridge clubs. In addition to sewing, she enjoyed quilting, genealogy and reading.
Surviving are her husband, Glenn; one son, Craig M. (Debra) Voskuil, White Fish Bay; two daughters, Wendy (Vince) Ulfig, De Forest, and Heidi (Ken) Nighbor, Hixton; one sister, Joan Strenn, De Pere; four grandchildren, Todd and Colin Voskuil, Weston Ulfig and Brian Nighbor; two step-grandsons, Vince II, and Robert; two step-great-granddaughters, Emily and Raven; and two step-great-grandsons, Nicholas and Forrest.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Marguerite Tennant.
Memorial services for Audrey A. Voskuil will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, from the Black River Falls United Methodist Church. Pastor Kathleen Jury will officiate.
Relatives and friends may call at the church Saturday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. until time of services.
The family prefers memorials be given to either Black River Memorial Hospice or to the VA Medical Center Hospice Program in Tomah.
Torgerson’s Funeral Service (715-284-4321) of Black River Falls is assisting the family with arrangements.
