Barritt, Georgia A. (25 April 1926 – 1 April 2010)
Georgia A. Barritt, 83, Alma Center passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Family Heritage Care Center, Black River Falls.
Georgia was born April 25, 1926, to George and Olive (Dunn) Atkinson in Garden Valley and was raised on the family farm. She was united in marriage Jan. 19, 1941, to Gordon E. Barritt. The couple lived in Milwaukee for many years, eventually returning to the Alma Center area. Gordon preceded her in death June 22, 1973.
Georgia worked many different jobs during her lifetime. She owned and operated a pool hall and worked at Pine View Care Center as a nurse’s aide. She was a storekeeper at North Bend and Milwaukee and worked for an auctioneer service in Sparta, in addition to being a wife and mother.
Georgia was a member of the Alma Center Methodist Church and was also a member of the Alma Center VFW Auxiliary.
In her free time, she loved to play Bingo, go bowling and play cards. She also enjoyed playing practical jokes on people.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Bill) Flick of Alma Center; three sons, Ronald (Sharon) Barritt of Merrill, Thomas (Donna) Barritt of Milwaukee and Gordon (Jeanne) Barritt of Atlanta, GA; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Barritt of Texas; her sister, Dorothy (Julian) Martinez of Black River Falls; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; five step great-great-grandchildren; besides other relatives, family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, George and Olive; a son, Steven Barritt, in 2008; sisters, Marlan and Phyllis; granddaughter, Rhonda Beck; grandson, Darrell Barritt; and great-granddaughter, Veronica Beck.
Funeral services for Georgia A. Barritt were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the Alma Center Methodist Church with Reverend Meg Erickson officiating. Burial took place in East Lawn Cemetery, Alma Center. Family and friends were invited for visitation Monday, April 5, 2010, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home, Hixton. Family and friends were also invited for visitation Tuesday from noon until the time of the services at the church.
The Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home of Hixton is assisting the family with arrangements.
