Geo. Huff is out again since his victorious wrestle with
the grippe.
F.E. Gotter and Will Hubing went to Chili Tuesday.
Ben Joern made a business trip to Fall Creek, Monday.
Earl Marsh came down from Duluth Saturday for a short
vacation and visit with home folks.
Mrs. W.S. Davis and her sister, Miss Emma Kimball spent
Monday with friends at Neillsville.
W.B. Wentworth of Edgerton came up Sunday and made a
several days visit to his son Rush.
Miss Mary Grasser is home from Milwaukee since Saturday.
Free Raymond went to Neillsville Tuesday.

Frei spent Saturday at Neillsville having dental work done.
Dr. and Mrs. Rath were Marshfield visitors Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kurth spent Tuesday with Mrs. Geo.
Wilding at St. Josephs Hospital in Marshfield.
Erma Albrecht spent Sunday with her parents at home.
Lydia Neinas attended the party given in honor of her
cousin, Clara Neinas 12th birthday Thursday eve.
Philip Lowery of Fifteld visited his relatives here the
first of the week.
The Equity will ship stock from here next Monday and
Tuesday.
J.B. Daughettee went to Richland Center Tuesday on
several days’ business and pleasure trip.
Mrs. Joern of Fall Creek is visiting her son Ben and his
wife here since Tuesday.
Ed Jahr made a weekend visit at his sister Mrs. Chas.
Steuerwald in Loyal.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bredlau of Loyal drove down and spent
Sunday at Wm. Nitschke’s.
Miss Mae Phillips of Neillsville spent the week end here
with Mrs. M.V. Ayers.
Miss Lela Potter made a week end visit to her folks at
Grand Rapids.
Wm. Edens went to Edgar Saturday and made an over Monday
visit among relatives.
Miss Jessie Wolf of Neillsville was the guest of her
friend Mrs. Baer last Friday and Saturday.
Miss Emma Kimball entertained the O.E.S. Birthday Club at
a party last Saturday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. F.J. Baer entertained friends at four
tables, playing cards, Friday evening.
Fred Hart and family are since Monday at home in their
lately purchased home, the Beeckler house.
Max Opelt, A.J. Knorr and O.A. Peterson were county seat
visitors last week Thursday.
Mr. and Mrs. Rose Paulson went to Eau Claire last week
Thursday on a pleasure trip.
J.W. Gardner of Pepin County who has been visiting at his
son, Franks’ since Thanksgiving departed for his home on Monday.
Chas. Brooks and daughter Miss Pearl came home from
Stevens Point for the week end and Monday vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Neinas from Sauerkraut City and Fred
Gerkie of Jefferson were guests at Chas. Neinas’ Sunday.
Fred Bredlau came down from Loyal on the train Tuesday to
look after business matters in which he is personally interested.
Mrs. O.A. Peterson went to Dorchester Tuesday and made a
several days’ visit among relatives and old friends.
Emil Kliner of Marshfield was here the first of the week
looking after the installation of the new furnace in the Lutheran Church of Rev.
Reiff’s parish.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tyler are since last Friday rejoicing
over the arrival of a baby girl, their first girl, they have four boys.
Mrs. Mabel Welsh has been caring for Mrs. Fred Tyler and
baby since Friday. Miss Martha
Kempins has charge of the house work.
Hal Kemery of Altoona is conductor of the way freight
since last week Tuesday while conductor Anderson of Marshfield is taking a
vacation.
Miss Alvina Miller of Marshfield came Saturday and
remained over Monday, a guest of Misses bertha and Gladys Gearke
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wright and daughter Bernice went to Eau
Claire Monday where Bernice underwent an operation for relief from ear trouble.
Ralph Marsh went to Neillsville Tuesday evening to visit
relatives.
Ross Paulson and Dr. Rath were Marshfield callers
Wednesday.
Geo. Phipps and Elmer Knickle transacted business at
Neillsville on Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Burch are starting house keeping in
livery man Geo. Rose’s tenement house.
Mrs. Gerzemehle and daughters Laura and Amanda are ill
with tonsillitis this week.
Mrs. H.C. Witte has been on the sick list much of the
time for several weeks past.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Beaver and Mrs. Gus Riedel spent
Wednesday morning at Neillsville.
Frank Zorn, Peter Cramer and Arthur Fessenden transacted
business at the county seat Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Pizer of Richland County are here since
Wednesday for an extended visit between the A.P. Spry and Bill Smith homes.
Arthur Fessenden in capsizing with a load of hay last
Friday suffered a dislocated wrist and one broken bone in his left arm.
Raymond Knickle returned here last Friday after spending
a week at the Mayo Bros. Hospital in Rochester, Minn. under medical inspection.
Mrs. Jesse Mortimer and daughter Helen went to Marshfield
Friday and visited relatives there until Tuesday evening.
Geo. Hart has a crew of carpenters at work building a
warehouse on the east side of his building, the old drug store building.
Miss Myrtle Cole entertained a company of girl friends at
a thimble party at her sister, Mrs. Hale Davis’ home Saturday afternoon.
G.H. Thayer of Curtis came down last week Thursday and
made an over Sunday visit with his brother W.J. and family.
Mrs. Edna Stumpf of Minneapolis who had been visiting her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Z. Schmucki and her sister, Mrs. John Hefty for the past
three weeks departed for her home in the city late last week.
The Branch of the American Society of Equity established
here has for its officers Chas. Neinas for president and manager; Henry Lawson,
vice president; E.A. Beeckler, secretary and treasurer.
Geo. Wilding and daughters Irma and Alice spent Monday
with Mrs. Wilding at St. Josephs Hospital in Marshfield.
Mrs. Wilding is reported to be rapidly recovering from her recent
operation.
Norman Schroeder who is attending school at Neillsville
spent the weekend at the Peter and George Cramer homes in Washburn.
Mrs. Geo. Rose and daughter Pearlie, accompanied by the
formers brother George Grove of Plymouth spent Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
Campbell at Marshfield. Mr. Grove
being on his way home to Plymouth after an extended visit here.
Henry Sternitzky, President of the Lynn Mutual Fire
Insurance Co., joined Secretary George A. Ure at Neillsville Monday and with him
continued on to Madison where they spent the first half of the week engaged with
business in the interest of the company.
Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Frei, Mrs. Wm. Storm, Mrs. Carl Roehl,
Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Ackerman, Mrs. John Hefty Sr. and Mrs. Fred Foemmel spent last
Friday at Chili in helping Mr. and Mrs. Herman Roehl celebrate their 6th
wedding anniversary and visiting Mr. and Mrs. John Hefty Jr.
Mrs. Baer is with her father C.S. Stockwell and sister
Miss Ethel of Neillsville, enjoying a pleasure trip and visit in Milwaukee since
yesterday. She is expected home
Monday evening. Helene is visiting
her Grandma Stockwell at Neillsville during her mother’s absence.
A letter from the Byron Pickering family informs us that
they, at Crane, Montana, are enjoying just such weather as we are, this winter.
Autos there carried the rural mail all winter.
Myron is running a flour mill there and Allie continues in the photograph
gallery at Sidney. Bryon Pickering
and daughter Jessie have sold their claims and are very contentedly enjoying the
pleasures of life in Crane where the school, church, railroad and other steps in
civilization are so accessible.
Mrs. Hale Davis will entertain the Priscillas tomorrow,
Saturday.
Dr. Harry Houseley of Chili was here on business
Wednesday.
Mrs. Geo. Wilson of York is ill and confined to here bed
since early this week.
Mrs. Ed Jacobson and daughter were over from Neillsville
Wednesday.
Chas. Haltnaufderheide after a weeks visit at New
Franklin came home Wednesday.
Dave Williams of Neillsville visited the Gene Crandall
family this week.
Gene Crandall went to Neillsville Wednesday to see his
mother who is ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Lem Curtis and their three youngest children
are home from their Richland County visit since Tuesday.
Chas. Sherrett of Vesta, Minn., after a several weeks
visit with his brother Ezra Sherrett in Washburn went home Wednesday night.
Wm. Bartz came home from Eau Claire Wednesday and reports
his daughter Grace to be holding her own and that they now had hopes of her
ultimate recovery.
David Steele is again at the Marshfield Hospital since
Wednesday and underwent another operation yesterday.
Miss Maymie Hanson of Eau Claire was here and attended
the funeral of the late P.A. Cross last Friday and went home Sunday.
Mrs. Steve Sweet and son Harold came down from Rice Lake
last week to attend the funeral of her uncle P.A. Cross.
They went to Chili Wednesday to visit Steve’s People and will return home
to Rice Lake early next week.
Fred Wright came home from Eau Claire Tuesday.
He reports his little daughter and Mrs. Elmer Dennis to be well on the
road to recovery. They share the
same room since Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Bartz who accompanied their daughter
Grace to Eau Claire last week Thursday are, owing to the seriousness of Miss
Grace’s condition, still there.
Grace underwent one operation Thursday and another one Saturday.
Her brothers Alfred and Fred spent Saturday there and on Sunday Fred came
home and made a trip back with his sister Ruth whom Grace wished to see.
Ella Altman of Loyal and Master Norman Altman of
Marshfield came last Saturday and remained until Tuesday morning visiting the
former sisters in the P.J. Kemmeter and W.S. Davis homes.
Wm. Reege after months of suffering with cancer of the
stomach answered the final summons at his home in Neillsville Tuesday morning,
Feb. 4, 1914. Mr. Reege formerly
lived in the southwest corner of this town and is well know hereabouts, as one
of the most respected and worthy farmers Grant ever boasted.
His death comes as a deep grief to many of our town’s people.
Mrs. Arthur Phipps and daughter Edna and Esther are
expected home today, after a 3 week’s visit among relatives and old friends in
Sheboygan County.
Mrs. F. J Baer received a copy of the Pension Bill
Monday, under date of Feb. 18, 1914, which if it becomes a law will pension
widows and minor children of any officer or enlisted man who served in the war
with Spain or Philippine insurrection.
This will be good news to many especially to two of her late clients from
Neillsville.
The masquerade came off as advertised Saturday night to
the time of most excellent music furnished by the second Reg’t orchestra of
Marshfield. The costumes were many
and varied. The group of gypsy
fortune tellers, Indians, cowboys, Negros and wenches, barbers, bar tenders,
tramp, school girls, clowns, snow drops and flower girls made an interesting
assemblage. Old farmer corn tassel
and his wife were most mirth provoking.
The spectators got their money’s worth and the dancers enjoyed
themselves. Both financially and
socially the affair was a big success.
