LeRoy F. Engel (4 October 1921 - 8 December 1974)


LeRoy F. Engel, 53, town of Mayville, Clark County, active in Medford and Stetsonville Farmers Union, died late Sunday afternoon at St. Joseph's hospital, Marshfield. He became ill suddenly and was admitted to the hospital that morning.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at St. Louis Catholic church, Dorchester. Rev. Jacob J. Burggraf, pastor, and Rev. Donald Berg, pastor of St. Wenceslaus Catholic church at Milladore, officiated. Interment took place in Dorchester Catholic cemetery.

The body lay in state at the Kraut-Maurina funeral home, Dorchester, where a parish rosary was recited Tuesday evening. Serving as pallbearers were Alvin Meyer, Clarence Geiger, Marvin Steevens, James Decker, Roy Hinke and Lawrence Heindl.

Mr. Engel was born October 4, 1921 in the town of Mayville and received his education at the former Hilltop school. He was married to Edith Amo June 14, 1944 at Medford. Prior to his marriage he farmed with his parents, taking over the operation of the farm in 1944.

He was director of the Medford and Stetsonville Farmers Union since 1968 and was also director of the Farmers Union Transport Company of Stetsonville. At the time of his death he was serving on the Mayville town board. Mr. Engel was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church.
