Edward G. Oelke (14 Nov 1899 - 31 Dec 1974)

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at St. Peter’s Lutheran church, Dorchester, for Edward G. Oelke, 75 West Bend, a former county resident who died Tuesday Dec. 31, of an apparent heart attack at St. Joseph’s hospital in West Bend. Rev. Roland M. Golz, pastor, officiated and burial took place in Zion Lutheran church cemetery at Stetsonville. The body lay in state at the Polnaszek funeral home at Abbotsford.

Serving as pallbearers were Kenneth and Victor Plockelman, Tom, David, and Dennis Lindau, Glendon Oelke and Bob Lueth.

Mr. Oelke was born November 14, 1899 at Richland Center and was married to Margaret Mueller October 30, 1924 at Dorchester. The couple had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary this year at the home of their son in law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Poehnelt, at Abbotsford.

After their marriage the couple moved to a farm southwest of Stetsonville where they farmed for 35 years. They resided several years at Medford and then farmed near Curtiss until their retirement about five years ago when they returned to Stetsonville. Since 1973 they had been making their home with a son Leland at West Bend.

Mr. Oelke was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran church at Dorchester.

Surviving along with Mrs. Oelke are a daughter, Lita, Mrs. Leo Poehnelt, Abbotsford; two sons, Kenneth, Dorchester and Leland, West Bend, and 15 grandchildren. Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Carl Lueth, Hazelhurst, and two brothers, Bernard, Baraboo, and Henry, Stetsonville.

He was preceded in death by a son, who died in infancy, a brother and a sister.
