Larry H. Lehman, 74, Prairie Farm, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Northland. A committal service will be held t 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Shelly Schultz officiating.

Larry Lehman was born on June 13, 1938, to Edwin and Stella (nee Rogers) Lehman. He attended the Young Country School House until 8th grade and then attended Prairie Farm and Rice Lake high schools, where he enjoyed playing football and baseball. Larry married Jeanne Hepburn on March 3, 1962, while serving in the United States Army. He proudly served his country for six years. He was stationed in Fort Lewis, Wash., the Tundra in Alaska during the Cuban Crisis, and later on in Camp Douglas, Wisc. After working construction for several years, Larry and Jeanne moved the family in 1969 to Larry’s childhood home in Prairie Farm where he began his life as a dairy farmer and raised four children. Larry truly loved the challenges of farming, his dairy herd, driving his tractors, and working the farmland. Larry retired from farming in 1997 and soon began 15 years of delivering bait part-time for Friesses Minnow Farm. Larry really enjoyed driving the minnow truck and visiting with patrons on his route, Throughout the years of raising his family, Larry was a general leader of the Country 76’ers 4-H Club with Jeanne, and served on the Prairie Farm School Board for 18 years. He loved playing cards, fishing at the lake, four wheeling in his woods, bow and gun deer hunting with his children and grandchildren, harvesting and cutting wood, and taking his daily walk with Jeanne and their dog, Rocky. Larry was an excellent craftsman and loved making all sorts of different wood items for his family and friends’ gardens and homes, along with making items to donate at local benefit auctions. Larry had a special love for his wife, children and grandchildren, and whenever or whatever they needed, he was always there and could make almost anything.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, are sons Daniel (Jackie) Lehman, Baldwin, and Douglas (Lisa) Lehman, Spencer; daughters Denise (Bryan) Ayers, Prairie Farm, and Deanne (Nate) Alsbury, Prairie Farm; grandchildren Natasha (Jason) Young, Benjamin (Robyn) Lehman, Derrick Lehman, Jordon Lehman, Melissa Lehman, Rachel Alsbury and Kailey Alsbury; great-grandsons Jonathan and Gabrien; a sister, Thora Voeltz, Glenwood City; a brother, Harold (Mary) Lehman, Ridgeland; and many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deborah; an infant grand-son, Jonathon, and his brothers, Avult Lehman and Royce Lehman.

Memorials are preferred to the United Lutheran Church Pew Fund of Prairie Farm or the Prairie Farm Fire Department.

I farmed the land. I tramped the woods. These are the things I understood. No grand schemes that passed me by. I knew the brook, the hills, the sky. To hunt a deer; to wet the line. Gifts from God so good and fine.

Friend and kin, I loved them so. Although I’m gone, I’m sure they know I’m now at peace, life’s battle done. I’ve faced the foes and I have won.
