Schu;tz, William (15 May 1923-07 Feb 2013)

William “Bud” Schultz, 89, Unity, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at the Golden Living Center, Abbotsford. Funeral services were held at !1 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity. Rev. Al Houts officiated. Burial followed the services at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Colby.

Bud was born on May 15, 1923, in Loyal, to William and Esther (nee Goucher) Schultz. He was a graduate of Unity High School. Bud played semi-pro basketball on the Unity Tigers basketball team and also played semi-pro baseball in Owen. Bud and Delores “Del” Peter were joined in marriage on June 3, 1947, at St. Mary’s Rectory in Colby. Bud was a cattle dealer, working with farmers across the state, buying and selling cattle. He was the village of Unity president and was a member of the Mid-Wisconsin Bank Board. He was active in the Unity sportsman’s club raising pheasants for stocking area fields, the Unity horse pull, and the Unity ball diamond. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and he closely followed local high school sports and Pro Baseball and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He also logged thousands of miles driving around the Unity area checking on Lynn farms to make sure the cows were healthy and the fields were planted. Bud could tell you every cow he bought, how much it cost, who he got it from, and where it lived. He had a remarkable memory for the details. He enjoyed sharing stories of his youth. Having no children of his own, he was known as “Uncle Bud” to a couple of generations of kids in Unity. He gave each child a special nickname and had many favorites throughout the years.

Bud is lovingly survived by Delores, his wife of 65 years; his sister, Irene Flink, Colby; his sisters-in-law, Sister Margaret Peter, Milwaukee, and Dorothy Arnold, Tuscon, Ariz.; and his brother-in-law, Bill Krempges, Springfield, Mo. He is also survived by nephews and nieces. Robert (Lottie) Flink, Abbotsford, Jerry (LuAnn) Flink, Colby, Richard (Elaine) Flink, Appleton, Ronald (Virginia) Flink, Marshfield, Jack Flink, Dorchester; Karen (Dave) Hoernke, Portage, Kris (Denis) Woik, Colby, and Kevin (Kris O’Leary) Flink, Abbotsford, numerous nieces and nephews on Del’s side; and many great-nieces and nephews. and great-great-grand nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Orville Schultz; and his sister, June Schultz.

In lieu of flowers, Bud’s family has asked that memorials be donated to the Unity Memorial Hall for future improvements.

The Maurina Schilling Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
