Manthe, Carol Jean (10 NOV 1946 – 8 AUG 1947)


Carol Jean Manthe Passes Away

Carol Jean Manthe, 9-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Manthe, who live 3 ½ miles west of Spencer in the town of Unity, died at 12:30 o’clock Friday morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, where she had been taken on Wednesday.

Carol Jean had been in poor health since her birth at the hospital last Nov. 10.

The infant’s only surviving relatives are her parents, Otto and Laura (Schwantes) Manthe. All the grandparents preceded her in death as did a sister at birth.

The body lay in state at the Swarthout Funeral Home, where funeral rites were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock, followed by a 2:30 o’clock service at St. Johns Lutheran Church north of Spencer. The Rev. H. C. Hinz officiated and burial was made in the church cemetery.

The flower girls and pallbearers were cousins of the little girl. The flower girls were Ione Manthe, Eileen Greeler, Caroline Schwantes, Gladys and Edna Klein, Mrs. LeRoy Manthe of Marshfield and Mrs. Gerhart Klein.

Pallbearers were Kenneth and Gerald Schwantes, Walter Klein and DuWayne Greeler.

The girls choir sang two songs, “Asleep in Jesus” and “I am but a Stranger Here, Heaven is my home”.

Out of town friends and relatives who attended the funreal were Mr. and Mrs. P. Wickman of Caroline, Mrs. E. Reckner and Mrs. C. Manthe of Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. W. Naedler of Granton, Mrs. H. Forman, Mrs. E. Winkelman and Mr. and Mrs. E. Greeler of Neillsville, Mr. and Mrs. W. Lunzmier of Auburndale, Mrs. A. Paatch and Chris Manthe of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Al Sauter of Dorchester, Mr. and Mrs. Al Hoover of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Schuette, Mrs. E. Young and Mr. and Mrs. A. Cammers and son Earl of Loyal; Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Bruss and Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Schwantes of Colby, Mrs. O. D. Faucher of Milwaukee.
