Ervin H. Bitter (30 Jan 1890 - 28 Mar 1959)

Abbotsford – Ervin H. Bitter, 69, Abbotsford’s assessor, died Saturday afternoon
at his home here. Funeral services are set for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First
Presbyterian Church and will be preceded by a short service at the Zink Funeral
Home at 1 p.m. Military rites will be conducted. The Rev. Lawrence Faivre will
officiate. The body is reposing at the Zink Funeral Home.
Mr. Bitter was born Jan. 30, 1890, in Sheboygan County. He resided at Abbotsford
the past 28 years, where he was a carpenter and construction foreman. He was a
member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the First Presbyterian Church. He
served in the 3rd Infantry Division during World War I and was wounded in
action.
He married Adeline Weetz at Marshfield Aug. 6, 1926.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, John C., U.S. Air Force; Melvin H., U.S.
Army; six grandchildren; two brothers, Harvey, Abbotsford; Edgar, Iowa Falls,
Iowa and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Scheuerman, Abbotsford; Mrs. Alice Selzner,
Chippewa Falls. One sister preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were Homer Smith, Vern Dohm, Lyle Johnson, William Wyman, Leo
Underwood and Ralph Bargenquast. Robert Lundahl sang “The Old Rugged Cross.” At
the graveside military rites he sang “My Buddy.” The Veterans of Foreign Wars
posts of Colby, Wausau and Abbotsford were in charge of the military rites with
Casey Jones of Wausau as officer of the day. The VFW Auxiliary had charge of the
floral tributes.

Mr. and Mrs. Nick Selzner, Mr. and Mrs. Keith Schipman, Chippewa Falls; Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Custer, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Webb, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Palmer,
Bloomer, and Mr. and Mrs. Denzel Van Gorder, Eau Claire. Mr. and Mrs. Gayland
Comeaux, Fond du Lac; Mrs. Lloyd Comeaux, OshKosh; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lundahl,
Ripon; Mr. and Mrs. Kermit Klimpke, Marinette; Mr. and Mrs. Lamar Schmitz, Green
Bay; Mrs. Birdie Smith, Independence, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Weetz, Mrs.
Louis Schoerer, Stevens Point; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Waldhart, Spencer; Mr. and
Mrs. Arnold Scheuerman, Milwaukee; Mrs. Bertha Dohm, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dohm,
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Ruesch, Medford, and Mr. and Mrs. John Stowe, Loyal.
