A Solemn Requiem High Mass was said at St. Joachim’s Catholic Church in Rolla, North Dakota, for Mrs. Charles Favreau, mother of Lee Favearu, on Saturday, December 9. Officiating clergymen were Father Rondard, Ro;;a, Father Benno, Belcourt. Interment was able in St. Michael’s cemetery at Rolla. Mrs. Favreau who passed away at the Rolla Community Hospital was 64 years old.

Pallbearers were Wilfred Mongeon, Edward Mongeon, Fortune Mortel, Albert Martel, David DeMers and Avrill DeMers.


The former Marie DeMers was born November 3, 1897 to Mr. and Mrs. August DeMers at Mars in Maryville township in North Dakota. She was the first girl to be baptized in the Maryville church. After leaving Maryville the family moved to Carpenter where she finished the elementary grades. She completed high school at the academy at Willow City and ten went on to Valley City State Teachers College and received her standard certificate from Minot State Teachers College in 1954.

Before her marriage she taught at the Willow City Academy and in Hutchinson township. After her family had grown she went back to teaching because of the love of the profession. She finished a term in the Rolla Public School, taught in Mylo, in Cleveland School in Kohlmeier township and in the Belcourt Turtle Mountain Community School. The first year in the Turtle Mountain Community School she taught an exceptional class ans then took the position of librarian until she became ill.

On November 7, 1917 she was married to Charles Favreau, who survives her. They lived in Rolla since their marriage with the exception of approximately one and a half years when they were engaged in the war industries in Bremerton. Mrs. Favreau was an active member of St. Joachim’s Church, being president of their Altar Society at different times. She also served as president of the Rolla Womens Club, of the American Legion Auxillary, and was one of the committee members who planned and staged the Pageant of 50 years of Progress.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Corrine) Bateson, Rolla; two sons, Leon, Loyal and Donald, Los Angeles, California; 17 grandchildren; five brothers Joseph DeMers, St. John, North Dakota, Frank DeMers, St. John; Arthur DeMers, Rock Lake, North Dakota, Eugene DeMers, Seattle, Washington, William DeMers, Hungary Horse, Montana.

Attending from here were Mr. and Mrs. Lee Favreau, Thomas, Patricia and Janet.
