Anna S. Lindau (11 Sept 1871 – 26 Sept 1959)
Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Lindau, 88, were held Tuesday from Peace
Evangelical church here. The Rev. Fred W. Kollath, pastor, officiated at the
last rites at 2:00 p.m. Mrs. Frank Rauscher and Mrs. Ray Pope sang “God Will
Take Care of You” and the Twenty-third Psalm, accompanied by the organist, Mrs.
Jerome Rankl, who played for the services.
Mrs. Lindau died Sept. 26 in the Havenet Rest Home, Owen, where she had resided
the past five years. She had been in failing health for some time, and her death
was attributed to the complications of illness and her advanced age.
Burial was in the Peace cemetery, with grandsons serving as pallbearers: Eugene
Lindau, Norman Lindau, Elvin Lindau, Melvin Lindau, David Lindau, and Victor
Gosse. Fuchsgruber Funeral Service had charge of arrangements.
Anna Sophie Schroeder was born in Wauwatosa on Sept. 11, 1871, and at the age of
seven, came to this community with her parents from Elm Grove. She and Fred
Lindau were married here Nov. 9, 1890, and for 35 years resided in their home in
the southwest part of the village.
About 1925 they moved to a farm south and west of the village, operating it for
about 20 years. In 1946 they retired, moving back to the village and the home
where they began married life. They sold the farm to their son Arnold, who now
owns and operates the land. Mr. Lindau died Nov. 30, 1946. She was a long-time
member of Peace Ev. church.
Five sons and five daughters survive: Albert Lindau, Henry Lindau, Arnold
Lindau, Mrs. Carl (Mary) Habeck, Mrs. William (Alvina) Beisner, and Mrs. Doris
Gosse, all of this community; Mrs. Buford (Amanda) Moore, Aberdeen, Wash.; Mrs.
Olga Eggett, Pittsville; George Lindau, Curtiss; Fred Lindau, Trenton, Mich.
Also surviving are 29 grandchildren, 53 great-grand-children, and one
great-great-grandchild.
All her children except Amanda and Fred were here for the funeral.
A son, two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
