Gustave Bobbe (14 Feb 1870 - 16 Sep 1953)
G.A. Bobbe, father of Mrs. M. S. Sorenson, and a former business man here, died
in a Sheboygan hospital last Wednesday, September 16, at 10:30 p.m. He had
suffered a heart condition for some time, and was taken seriously ill recently
at the home of a daughter in Sheboygan. Funeral services were held from a
Sheboygan funeral home at 10:30 a.m. and at 3:00 p.m. graveside rites were
conducted at Memorial cemetery, Amherst, beside Mrs. Bobbe, who died several
years ago. The Rev. W. W. Laesch officiated at the rites.
Mr. Bobbe came to Dorchester September 13, 1911, and built a feed mill which he
operated along with a potato warehouse, for 14 years, moving to Sheboygan
October 5, 1925. He was a member of the village board of trustees for several
years during his residence here also.
Gustave Adolph Bobbe was born February 14, 1870, at Amherst where he attended
the schools, and was married to Ellen J. Amundson on April 14, 1898. Prior to
coming to this community, the family farmed at New Hope, and after moving to
Sheboygan, he was employed at a chair factory until his retirement in July of
1949. Since then he had resided with his children. Mrs. Bobbe died in 1947. He
was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran church at Sheboygan.
Surviving are three daughters and a son, Mrs. Isla Simmon, Forbes, N.D.; Mrs. M.
S. (Maude) Sorenson, Dorchester; William Bobbe and Mrs. D. A. (Elsie) Garnett,
both of Sheboygan; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Four sisters
also survive; Mrs. Paulina Grieves, Bartlesvillle, Okla; Mrs. Emma Stone and
Mrs. Elvena Saunder, both of Park Falls, and Mrs. Celia Ptolemy, Cortez,
Colorado. Two brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
