Davis, Dessie (6 January 1897 - 20 August 1968)

Funeral services were held Friday from the York Center United Methodist Church for Mrs. Merton Davis 71, of Cameron, who died August 20 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. The Rev. Raymond J. Fleming of Marshfield officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis the former Dessie Eysnogle, was born January 6, 1897, in Richland County, daughter of the late Joseph and Nettie (Deets) Eysnogle. She attended schools in Richland and Clark Counties.

On March 31, 1897, she was married in York Center to Merton Davis. They returned to Richland County, where they were engaged in farming. They returned to York Center community where they farmed for several years, later operating a root beer stand in Gary, Ind., for 10 years, and one in Waupaca for five years. During that time they spent the winters in Arizona. The last eight years they had made their home in Cameron.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her husband; three sons, Joe of Stevens Point; Bernard of Plainfield, Ill.; and Halan of Mundelein, Ill. Other survivors are two sisters, Mrs. Zettie young of Neillsville and Mrs. Blanch Schaffner of Campbell, Cal.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were: Erhardt Witte, William Schmidtke, Bernard Pietenpol, Milford Rowe, Glenn Lavey and Joe Boh. Frank Darrah, accompanied by Ruth Pietenpol, sang, “God Understands” and “Does Jesus Care.”

People from away attending the funeral were: Merton Davis, Mr. and Mr. Frank Darrah, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Briggs, Mrs. Tom Silbaugh and Mrs. Charles Riedner, all of Cameron; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Davis, Charlotte and Scottie of Stevens Point; Mr. and Mrs. Halan Davis, Dennis and Joni of Mundelein, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Davis, Lynn and LuAnn of Plainfield, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Davis of Whitewater; Mr. and Mrs. William Davis of Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Lyndon Ellifson of Ridgeland; Mr. and Mrs. Buford Deets, Mr. and Mrs. LaVerne Hardy and Bertha Searls of Richland Center; Jesse Deets of Bloom City; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Wollin and Ruby Steffen of Watertown; Mr. and Mrs. L. E. McCumber of Barron; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Williamson, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Schmeiser of Medford; Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Witte of Birchwood; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Free, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Fensome, Mr. and Mrs. Harland Piggett and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lulloff of Loyal; Mrs. Marvin Davis and Rick, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Kronberger of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Phelps Spry of Chili.

Many people from the Loyal, Granton and Neillsville areas also attended the funeral.
