Weston (Seven Hurt at Barn Raising - 8 Jul 1915)
Last Thursday morning seven farmers had a very close call to a very serious
injury at a barn raising at Ernest Hemp’s in town of Weston. The crew was just
raising the furline plate when the staging gave way beneath them, precipitating
them to the ground 16 feet below. For a time Ferdinand Grap was thought to have
suffered very serious injury as he was rendered unconscious and did not come to
for some time. Dick Rosenberg had a bone broken in his arm and the cords in Ben
Dux’s arm were strained. Leonard Schultz, Aug. Wagner and Ed. Schwellenbach
suffered severe bruises, be were not seriously hurt.
It was a close call to serious injury and those who helped at the raising are
congratulating themselves that the mishap was not of a more serious nature.
