Elmendorf, Harold E. (23 FEB 1900 - 29 MAY 1965)
Harold Everett Elmendorf was born in Thorp (Clark Co.), Wis. To Eliza and Val
Elmendorf on Feb. 23rd, 1900. He spent the early part of his life around Thorp
and in 1929 moved to Granton where he worked for the Clark County Highway
Department. Later the family moved to Neillsville and the Shortville country.
He was married in Thorp to Myrtle Romfoe in 1923.
In 1942 the family moved to Seattle, Wash. where they have resided since.
In March of this year Mr. and Mrs. Elmendorf and little granddaughter Carrie
visited old friends in the Neillsville, Thorp and Gilman areas.
Mr. Elmendorf passed away in the Ballard Hospital in Seattle on May 29, 1965,
after having suffered four heart attacks following surgery. He was laid to rest
in Sun Crest Gardens of Washelli Cemetery in Seattle. Pallbearers were four
nephews, Thorval Elmendorf, Mervil Elmendorf, Howard Elmendorf, Leo Bells, a
brother-in-law, Rueben Burtard, and Nat Chapman, one of the owners of the firm
he worked for.
Services were held at Wiggins Funeral Chapel with Pastor Burton Smith of Ballard
Lutheran Church officiating. Dr. Ed Palmasan sang "The Evening Prayer" and
"Sometime We'll Understand.".
He is survived by his wife, Myrtle of Seattle, daughters Bonita of Des Moines,
Iowa, and Doreen of Seattle, 6 grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Frank Schultz of
Thorp, Wis., 2 brothers, Bernard of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Cletus of Auburn,
Wash.
Mr. and Mrs. Rueben Burtard and son Donald, and Mrs. Frank Herman of Gilman,
Wis. Attended the services.
