Jasinek, Helen (21 April 1922 - 27 February 2013)

On February 27, 2013, we lost a very special person. Helen Jasinek of Maple Grove, MN, formerly of Thorp, WI, passed away at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN. Mom was born on April 21, 1922, in Thorp, WI, to Albert Sr. and Stella (Spala) Kodl. She worked as a babysitter in Chicago for a short time and then at the Blue Moon Factory in Thorp, until after her marriage to the love of her life Frank Jasinek, Jr., a musician, whom she met at a dance. Frank and Helen were married on October 21, 1944. They raise four daughters and ran a dairy farm until they retired in 1980 and moved to the City of Thorp.

She loved farming, raising her chickens, cooking and gardening. When she moved to Thorp, Mom was an active volunteer at the Senior Center, the American Legion, and St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Parish. Always there to with a helping hand, Mom cherished time spent with her family and friends. In September 2007, we moved Mom to Maple Grove, MN to live with her daughter, Betty, who was her care giver until she passed away.

Survivors include her four devoted daughters: Dorothy Farina of Carol Stream, IL, Elaine Wisch of Waukesha, WI, Betty Jasinek and Rosie Jasinek, both of Maple Grove, MN; sisters-in-law: Mary Kodl, Fern Kodl, Valerie Kodl and Gert Jasinek; many nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren: Steven (Connie) Farina, Gary (Wendy) Wisch, Jeffrey (Tammy) Wisch; and eight step-great-grandchildren.

Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank, in 1985; parents: Stella and Albert Kodl Sr.; brothers: Albert, Joseph, Jerry and his wife Audrey, and Emil Kodl; in-laws: Frank and Edna Jasinek, Sr.; brother-in-law, Stanley Jasinek; and son-in-law, Robert Farina.

Helen’s funeral was held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp, WI with visitation starting at 9 a.m. at the church. Rev. Don Meuret officiated and burial followed in New St. Hedwig’s Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dorothy Farina, Elaine Wisch, Betty Jasinek, Rosie Jasinek, Kent Weiler and Kenneth Kodl.

Mom, thank you for always being there for us; we love you and we will miss you. And your kitty Tootsie, does too. Thank you for being such a wonderful Mom.
