Gilbertson, Judith “Judy” Fay (5 May 1953 - 23 January 2013)
Judith “Judy” Fay Gilbertson, age 59, of Fennimore passed away on Wednesday,
January 23, 2013, at Agrace Hospice in Madison, surrounded by her family and
many friends. Judy, daughter of Frank and Marilyn (Leja) Lis, was born May 5,
1953, in Stanley, WI. She was raised in Gilman, WI and graduated from Gilman
High School before moving to Boscobel. She was united in marriage to Duane
Gilbertson of Fennimore on October 8, 1998. Judy was an amazing wife, mother and
grandmother; she was fiercely loyal and protective of her family. She treasured
spending her free time with her many grandchildren and friends. She enjoyed her
job as a training specialist at lands’ end. Her hobbies included gardening,
putzing in her flowers, watching the various birds, and she was always looking
forward to her next adventure.
Judy is survived by her husband, Duane; children: Jennifer (Brian) Novinska of
Verona, Janell (Iver) Rondestvedt of Altoona, Jon (Kristy) Thompson of Barron,
and Jason Thompson of Ridgeway; Step-children: Sarah (John) Torgerson, and
Heather (Shawn) Wolf, both of Fennimore; 19 grandchildren; her mother, Marilyn
Lis of Stanley; Susan (James) Schley of Gilman, Lynette Morris of Columbus, NE,
Janet (Ken) Finke of Cornell, James (Rhonda) Lis of Lublin, Diane (Dave) Hunt of
Stanley, Dean (Lisa) Lis of Neillsville and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Lis.
A memorial service to celebrate Judy’s life was held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday
January 26, 2013, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Fennimore. A visitation was
held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday morning.
Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date. Throughout Judy’s
battle and being given so much, she was very adamant that in lieu of plants,
flowers and memorials please “pay it forward to someone in need.”
The Larson Family Funeral Home of Fennimore assisted the family.
