Roberts, Lucille Garvin “Casgeguhajiijeiga” (1 March 1927 - 1 March 2013)
Lucille Garvin Roberts, 86, of Black River Falls passed away Friday, March 1,
2013, at her home, while under the care of Black River Memorial Hospice. She was
born March 1, 1927, in Dells Dam to George and Ellen (Winneshiek) Garvin.
Lucille was raised in the Dells Dam area and was a graduate of Haskell high
School, Lawrence, KS, and attended one year at the University of
Wisconsin-Stout. She was united in marriage to Ernest Roberts in Cedar Rapids,
IA, in 1955. He preceded her in death.
Lucille worked for Wilson’s Packing House in Cedar Rapids. She was a Contract
Health representative, Chakhachee Headstart cook and Ho-Chunk language teacher.
Lucille enjoyed Bingo and going to the Casino, powwows, traveling, visiting with
family and friends, cooking and sewing.
She is survived by her son, Robin Lee (Diana) Roberts of Montour, IA; daughter,
Carol Ann Rockman of Black River Falls; grandchildren, Sherry Robin Chick of
Wisconsin Rapids, Tia Renee Chick of Black River Falls, Autumn and Conrad
Roberts both of Wisconsin Dells, and Precious Roberts of Black River Falls; 10
great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews,
relatives and friends.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest; parents, George and Ellen;
sisters, Hilda Dick, Louise Powers, Rita Hindes and Helma Cloud; brothers
Francis, Roy Ernest and Arnold Garvin and Clifford Little bear.
Traditional Ho-Chunk services were held Sunday, March 3, 2013, at noon at
Lucille Roberts’ residence, N7609 Kingswan Rd. Black River Falls. The Winneshiek
family conducted traditional viewing.
Pallbearers for the service were: Fletcher Collins, Monty Green, Bobby Bird,
Robert Mann, Randy Savage and Bob Stewart.
Family and friends were invited for visitation Sunday from 10 a.m. until the
time of the service at the residence.
Buswell Funeral Home of Black River Falls is assisting the family with
arrangements.
