William Carpenter Passes Away
William Carpenter, 72, a resident of Granton the past five years died sometime
Thursday night at his home at Granton, the result of a heart attack.
The body lie in state at the Gilbertson Funeral Home until the time of services
which were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock conducted by Theodore Sorenson of
Withee. Burial was made in Windfall cemetery at Granton.
Mr. Carpenter was born in the Town of Freemont, Clark County on January 9, 1876
and was a retired foreman of the A. O. Smith Corp. of Milwaukee. He lived in
Marshfield for 20 years prior to 1925, going to Marshfield from Milwaukee.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carrie (Ives) Carpenter, Milwaukee, and six
children Mrs. Andrew (Hope) Dietzler, Midland, Mich.; Lois and Warren D.
Carpenter, Stevens Point; Victor Carpenter, Spencer; John Carpenter, Wisconsin
Rapids, and David Carpenter, Milwaukee. Twins Ruth and Rachael, died in infancy
and a son Billy, died at the age of [unreadable, perhaps 15 or 17] in 1920.
There are 16 grandchildren and 3 sisters, Abbie, San Diego, Calif.; Sylvia,
Mission Beach, Calif.; and Sarah, Portland, Oregon. Two sisters and a brother
preceded him in death.
