Soldiers Body Returned
The body of Private Raphael Duval, Marshfield soldier killed in action in France
July 24, 1944, was brought to Marshfield for final interment. The body arrived
with a military escort at the Chicago and Northwestern depot at Marshfield
Tuesday evening May 35th [sic] at 10:30 o’clock. It was taken to Rembs Funeral
Home where Services were held at 10:00 A. M. Wednesday. The Very Reverand [sic]
Michael J. Kelnhofer officiated.
Burial took place at Hillside cemetery where Lesselyong – Sadowska Post 54,
American Legion had charge of Military rites.
The soldier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Duval, Granton, former Marshfield residents,
was born in the Town of Unity, November 8, 1923 and attended school at
Marshfield and at Sawyer School in South Spencer where the family lived for a
number of years.
For three years prior to entering the army he was employed in Rockford, Ill.
He was inducted into the army on March 7, 1943, and received his training at
Fort Jackson, S. C. and at Atterbury, Indiana. He was sent over seas in May
1944.
He is survived by his parents, two brothers, Floyd and Charles of Marshfield and
two sisters, Mrs. Albert (Isabel) Perner and Mrs. Paul (Violet) Perlock also of
Marshfield.
