Lawrence Mertens (17 April 1913 – 6 Feb 2000)
Former Dorchester resident Lawrence “Larry” Mertens, 86, Glendale, died Sunday,
February 6 at the Dove Health Care Center in Glendale, WI.
Funeral services will be held at 11 :00am on Friday, February 11 at St. Louis
Catholic Church in Dorchester, with Rev. James Schaefer officiating. Interment
will be in the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. His nephews will serve as
pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 9 am until the time of the service at St. Louis Catholic
Church on Friday.
Maurina Funeral Home of Dorchester assisted the family with arrangements.
Lawrence Mertens was born on April 17, 1913 at the Town of Little Black (Taylor
County) to the late Henry A. and Elizabeth C. (Henrichs) Mertens. He was a
graduate of Dorchester High School and served in WWII as a mechanic in the US
Air Force. He was a carpenter and draftsman for a construction company and
worked in Milwaukee, California, and Illinois. He enjoyed reading.
Survivors include two sisters, Magdalen “Madge” (Arnold) Rhyner, Dorchester, and
Marie (Robert) Schnedler, Milwaukee; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Alfred,
Albert, Carl, George, and John; and two sisters: Clara Sailer and Perlinda
Scholz.
