John Meyer (6 Jun 1853 – 12 Dec 1934)

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Edwin Guth home and 2 o’clock at the Peace Evangelical church, Rev. J. R. Kaiwitz officiating, for John Meyer, who passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edwin Guth, Wednesday afternoon of apoplexy after an illness of about 2 months. Burial took place in the Peace Evangelical cemetery with John Lang, Carl Plockelman, Carl Tessmer, Gilbert Garvue, and Harry and John Ockerlander acting as pallbearers and Lula Blue, of Dale, Margaret Meyer of Marshfield, Ruth Skidmore, Evelyn Meyer, Verna Guth, Mildred Meyer and Doris and Carol Ockerlander acting as flower bearers. Mrs. Al Amo and Mrs. Ida Kleiber, of Medford, sang “Beautiful Words of Jesus”, "Loss mich gehen” and “Nearer My God to Thee”.

John Meyer was born at Manitowoc June 6, 1853 and was 81 years old, 6 months and 6 days old at time of death. In 1974 he came to Dorchester and purchased the present farm 3 miles west and 1 mile north of the village. Sept. 8, 1883 he was united in marriage to Miss Helen Lapp, Ten children were born to this union, four daughters, Mrs. Anna Hawk, and Mrs. Elsie Blue, of Dale, Mrs. Louise Guth and Mrs. Rose Tessmer, of Dorchester, and 6 sons, Edward, Charles, Herman, Harvey, and Emil, of Dorchester and Albert of Marshfield. Mrs. Meyer passed away March 10, 1917. Mr. Meyer was a member of the town board for 3 years and a member of the school board for about 10 years.

Mr. Meyer leaves his ten children, 27 grandchildren, 2 brothers, Fred of De Pere, and Robert, of Clarkston, Wash, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Falck, Mrs. Stena Ferguson, both of De Pere and Mrs. Elizabeth Fuchsgruber, of Wausau, to mourn his death.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the services were Mrs. A. Lapp and Willard Suhrke, of Plymouth, Donald and George Lapp, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Blue and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bertschy Hawk and Mrs. E. Hawk, all of Dale, and Mrs. and Mrs. Albert Meyer and family and Mrs. Eggebrecht of Marshfield.
