St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. He weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces and was 20

Mrs. Celia Wiedenhoeft, Route 1, Colby, announce the birth of her second
grandson, Eric James, 7 pounds, 8 ounces. He was born June 27, 1977 at Mercy
Hospital in Janesville, Wisconsin. He is the son of Woody and Pat Wiedenhoeft,
Whitewater. Eric joins his 16 month old brother, Lance Matthew.
Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Cook of McHenry, Illinois are the maternal grandparents.
Great-grandparents are Mrs. Marie Beckman and Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Cook, Council
Bluffs, Iowa.

Olah, James Edward (10 May 1955 – 7 Jul 1977)
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 12, 1977 at 11 a.m. for James Edward
Olah, age 22, Colby. The Rev. Francis Rushman officiated at the rites held at
St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Colby. Burial followed at the church cemetery.
Rux-Lulloff Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Olah died as a result of a car-bike accident Thursday, July 7, 1977.
He was born May 10, 1955 at Wausau to Michael and Catherine Olah, Colby, who
survive. He was educated in the Athens and Colby school systems. Mr. Olah lived
at home with his parents and had never married. He was a member of St. Mary’s
Catholic Church.
He is further survived by five sisters, Mrs. Oscar (Carol) Held, Edgar, Mrs.
Donald (Joann) Proft, Colby, Mrs. Allen (Bev) Erickson, Colby, June and Janette
at home; a brother Tony at home, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Michael Olah
Sr., Westboro.

Cook, Ida (7 May 1895 – 1 Jul 1977)
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 5, 1977 at the Rux-Lulloff Funeral Home
in Colby for Mrs. Ida Cook, age 82, Marathon. The Rev. Keith Schroerlucke
officiated at the Service. Burial followed in the Colby Memorial Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronald, Kevin, Keith and Colin Cook and Jon and Jerry Gardner.
Mrs. Cook passed away July 1, 1977 at the Continental Manor Nursing Home in
Abbotsford.
The former Ida Loughead was born in Plover, Iowa on May 7, 1895. She married
Raymond Cook on June 16, 1915, in Unity. She worked for a few years at the
Farmers Union Coop of Marathon. Mrs. Cook was a member of the Methodist Church
at Rib Falls, and its ladies aid.
She is survived by four son, Roderick Cook, Unity, Orland Cook, Wenatchee,
Washington, Donald Cook, Wausau, and Warren Cook, Marshfield; two daughters,
Mrs. Joseph (Elinor) Realny, Berryville, Virginia, and Mrs. Harold (Jean)
Gardner, Withee; 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; one brother, Tom
Loughead, Unity, and one sister, Mrs. Nel Fuller, Wausau.
She was preceded in death by her husband.

Jeanne Marie Writz, a 1977 Abbotsford High School graduate, won a $750
scholarship through the Northern States Power Company Employees’ Children’s
Scholarship Program.
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Writz, Abbotsford. Writz is an NSP
Lineman Journeyman in Abbotsford.
NSP President John L. Carroll presented scholarships to Jeanne and four other
students during ceremonies June 3, 1977 at NSP’s Eau Claire office. NSP grants
the scholarship each year on a competitive basis, and they may be renewed
annually for four years, contingent upon satisfactory scholastic performance.

Two area residents were among approximately 2490 University of Wisconsin,
Whitewater students who achieved academic honors during the second semester of
the 1976-77 school year. Of the total, about 350 received grades of straight A
for a 4.0 average. Another 780 had grade point averages from 3.5 to 3.9 and were
accorded first honors. Second honors, for grade point averages of from 3.0 to
3.49 went to about 1350. To earn honors, a student must carry at least 12
credits with an average grade below C.
Albert C. Damm, Abbotsford, earned first honors, and Darrell B. Wenzel, Route 1,
Colby, received second honors.
