Colby High School graduating class of 1957 held its 20 year reunion Saturday evening, July 2, 1977 at the VFW in Colby. Honored guests were Mr. and Mrs. Dale McCutcheon of Madison and John Ravy of New Berlin.

Wayne Hendrickson acted as master of ceremonies. Gary Neinow called the roll and each member responded with a short history of their past 20 years.

A committed was appointed to prepare a 30 year reunion in 1987. They are Hendrickson, Stacke, Neinow, Mrs. Schnabel and Mrs. Hinkelmann.

Marriage vows were exchanged Saturday, June 25, 1977 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby between Mary Allmann, Chicago, and Daniel Babich, Chicago. The Rev. Francis Rushman performed the 5 p.m. ceremony. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Edward Allmann, Colby, and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Babich, Chicago.

The bride wore a floor length gown with its bodice trimmed in Chantilly lace. Her tulle veil was cathedral length. She carried gardenias, white (? – unreadable) and stephanotis.

Her attendants wore green quiana knit dresses with matching jackets. They carried nose gays of white tea roses, green button mums and baby’s breath.

Rhonda Haas, Wausau, friend of the bride, was maid of honor. Debi Kaiser, Madison, Bernadette Lynch, Chicago, were attendants, Amy Masany was flower girl.

Attending the bridegroom was Eddie (? – unreadable), Chicago, as best man. Bob Sevarski, Chicago, and Russell Haas, Unity, were groomsmen. Rick Allmann, brother of the bride, and Larry Haas, Colby, friend of the bridegroom, were ushers.

A reception and dinner were served in St. Mary’s Hall. A wedding dance followed at the sword in Colby.

Mrs. Babich is a 1974 graduate of Colby High School and is in public relations for Perry International, Chicago. Babich is employed for the Milwaukee Road Railroad, Chicago. The couple will live in Elmwood Park, Illinois.

Miss Schelling is a graduate of Abbotsford High School and the School of Nursing, UW, Eau Claire. She is presently employed as head nurse in the out patient unit at Luther Hospital, Eau Claire.

Her fiancé is a graduate of Memorial High School, Eau Claire. He is presently completing his work in the field of business administration at WU, Eau Claire. He is also employed at Luther Hospital in an administrative capacity.

Lynnette Ann Koth and Edward J. Zwirchitz, both of Wausau, repeated wedding vows Saturday, June 4, 1977 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tomahawk. The Rev. Edward Powell officiated at the 4 p.m. ceremony. Judy Uselding, sister of the bridegroom, sang “People, “”Wedding Song” and “Evergreen.”

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Donald Koth, Tomahawk, and Mrs. Jane Zwirchitz, Abbotsford.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of polyester knit with A-line skirt, empire waist and cap sleeves of Venice lace. Venice lace also trimmed the waistline and hemline. She wore a fingertip veil with Camelot headpiece. Her bouquet was of spingeri fern and miniature white carnations.

Maid of honor was Susan LaNou, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Judy Uselding and Luana Stephans, Cathy Wendorf and Terry Melquist. Their gowns were of polyester knit, with V-necks, diamond shirred bodices and chiffon capes. Their flowers were single long stemmed peach rsoes with springeri fern.

Best man was Bruce Klieforth. Groomsmen were Roger Uselding, brother-in-law of the bridegroom, Tod Koth brother of the bride, Jim Broadhagen and Bob Motelet. Howie Koth and Bruce Hetzel were ushers.

A dinner was served to the families of the bride and bridegroom at Beilke’s Supper Club. A dance followed.

The bride is an administrative stenograph at General Telephone, Wausau, and the bridegroom is a machinist at Murray Machinery, Wausau.

Mrs. Zwirchitz is a 1971 graduate of Tomahawk High School and a 1972 graduate of Nicolet College and Technical Institute. The bridegroom is a 1971 graduate of Eau Claire Technical Institute, and attended Wausau Technical Institute.

The Dorchester High School Class of 1957 held its 20th anniversary reunion at Dorchester Municipal Hall Saturday night, July 2, 1977. The program opened with a social hour at 6:30 followed by a 7:30 p.m. banquet. The evening was spent in reminiscences, refreshments and dancing. Dale Pope and Verlyn Schmidt were in charge of arrangements.

Vrana, Anna (16 Aug 1902 – 9 Jul 1977)

Funeral services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford Tuesday, July 12, 1977 at 2 p.m. for Mrs. Anna Vrana, age 74, Cicero, Illinois. The Rev. Kenneth Loehrke officiated at the service, with burial following at the Abbotsford Cemetery. The Rux-Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby, was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Vrana passed away at Columbus Hospital in Chicago, July 9, 1977, after a lingering illness.

The former Anna Bezousek was born August 16, 1902 in Czechoslovakia. She married James Vrana on July 6, 1922 at Omaha, Nebraska. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Ladysmith, where they farmed. In 1929 they moved to a farm in the Town of Holton, hear Abbotsford. In 1866 she moved to Cicero to make her home with her daughters.

She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in Cicero and a former member of Christ Lutheran Church in Abbotsford, and its ladies aid.

She is survived by two sons, Jerry, Colby, and James, Rochester, Indiana; two daughters, Mrs. Mae Paulos, Cicero, and Mrs. Philip (Irene) Kvederis, Wheeling, Illinois, and five grandchildren.

News: Abbotsford – Tribune-Phonograph Staff Changes (Jul 1977)

The appointment of a new advertising director and editor took place on the staff of the Tribune-Phonograph this week.

Marianne Walley, who has been editor of the TP for the past two years, stepped into the advertising director’s job. She is an Abbotsford resident. The former ad manager, Carl Hilber, recently resigned to take a salesman position with the Marshfield New Herald.

The new staff member is Steven Hacken who is the paper’s new editor. Since June 1, he has worked as editor of the Athens-Edgar Record Review, a sister publication of the TP.

Previous to that time he was sports editor at the Inter County Leader in Frederic. During his stay in Frederic, the Leader won a Wisconsin Newspaper Association award for sports coverage.

Steven is a 1972 graduate of Taylor Falls High School in Taylor Falls, Minnesota. He received his AA degree in 1974 from the Golden Valley Lutheran College in Minneapolis. He finished his school in 1976, as he graduated with a BS degree in journalism and physical education from UW-River Falls.

Steve, 22-years old, had been living in Abbotsford since June 1, 1977. He is a member of Casey’s Bar slow-pitch softball team during his spare time.

Wedding vows were exchanged between Penny Herrmann and Gary Searer Saturday, July 2, 1977 at the First United Church of Christ, Colby. The Rev. Kenneth Dix performed the 3 p.m. ceremony.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Ed Herrmann, Dorchester, and Mr. and Mrs. Norman Searer, Route 2, Colby.

A friend of the bride, Sharon Gaetz, was maid of honor. Other attendants were Julene Stoiber and Cathy Searer. Kevin Mews was best man. All Herrmann and Norman Searer, Jr., were groomsmen.

A sheer organza white gown trimmed with Venice lace, low neckline and ruffled skirt with a chapel train was born by the bride. She carried a bouquet of yellow roses and baby’s breath.

The attendants were seen in green flowered organza gowns. Each carried a basket of yellow rose with baby’s breath.

A reception, dinner and dance followed at the Dorchester Hall in Dorchester.

The bride graduated in 1977 from Colby High School and the bridegroom from the same school in 1975. They are employed at the Harris Cheese Factory.

Bio: Leister, Joseph R. 2nd Lt. – Outstanding Junior Officer (1977)

Second Lt. Joseph R. Leister has been named outstanding junior officer of the quarter in his unit at Ramstein AB, Germany. His wife, Doris, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Ellenbecker, Unity.

Lt. Leister, a security police officer, was selected for exemplary leadership, devotion to duty and professional performance. The lieutenant is a member of the U.S. Air Forces in Europe.

He received his B.S. degree in 1975 from Metropolitan State College, Denver, Colorado, and was commission later that year through Officer Training School, Lackland AFB, Texas.
