Richmond-Higby Family (18th Reunion - 1984)
The 18th annual reunion of the Richmond-Higby family was held Sunday, July 29,
at Schuster Park, Neillsville. Forty-four family members attended. A potluck
dinner and supper was shared by the group. The afternoon was spent visiting
after prizes were given out for special accomplishments.
Those present were Floyd and Hilda Richmond, Royalton, Minnesota, Ken and Ellie
Richmond, Margaret and Connie, Pierz, Minnesota, Bob and Wilma Richmond,
Fennimore, Louis and Dorothy Kretlow, Sussex, Fred and Myrtle Harp, Chippewa
Falls, John and Evelyn Mack, Elgin, Illinois; and Paul and Barbara Hamm, Cindy
and Brian, Barrington, Illinois.
Joining then were Edna Akin, Neillsville; Jesse and Virginia Richmond, Marv, Bob
and John and Bob Vanier, all of Granton; Cy and Bev Spangler, Watertown; and Viv
and Mary Carteron, Laura Richmond, Norman and Betty Horn, Herb and Lila Horn,

A March 30 wedding is being planned for Sharon J. Sadowski and Scot J. Kapusta.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Sadowski and Irene Kapusta, all of
Neillsville.
The bride-to-be is a 1984 graduate of Neillsville High School and is presently
attending Milwaukee Area Technical College in computer programming. Scot, a 1979
graduate of Neillsville High School, is employed in the Neillsville area.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville will be the site for the spring 1985
nuptials.

Witte, Richard G. (Rookie/Month - 1984)
Richard G. Witte, Neillsville, was recently named The Rural Companies’ “Rookie
Of The Month” for achieving the highest sales production during the month of
June among all new agents employed for one full calendar year throughout the 24
agencies across Wisconsin and South Dakota.
He is with Rural’s Marshfield Service Center, and has served Clark County area
since February of 1983.
Witte is a graduate of Lee D’ Bois, Estate Planning, The Pre-Management Academy
and has also completed various insurance courses through Rural’s Career.
Witte and his wife, Corrine, are the parents of three children. The family
resides at Rt. 2 Neillsville.

English wedding ceremonies were held on August 4 for Rebecca Elmhorst and Neal
Turner.
According to the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frederick R. Elmhorst of
Lakeland, Florida, Rebecca was married to Neal Turner at Acton Town Hall. The
groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Alan Turner of Greenford, Middlesex, England.
The new Mrs. Turner is a graduate of Florida Southern College, Lakeland, and
will be employed by Callingham Crane Chartered Accountants of London. Her
husband is employed as an assistant film productionist for Overseas Production.
Rebecca is a granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick D. Elmhorst of Granton and
Mr. and Mrs. Levi Shirley of Humbird.

St, Mary’s Catholic Church in Neillsville was the site for the Saturday
afternoon, August 4, wedding of Katie Heiman and John Ernst. The Rev. Joseph
Henseler officiated. Francis and Evelyn Heiman of Rt. 4 Neillsville are parents
of the bride. The groom’s mother is Anne Ernst, Hortonville.
Serving as maid of honor was Elizabeth Heiman, the bride’s sister. She was
joined by Deanna Heiman, the bride’s sister-in-law. Both are from Neillsville.
Serving as groomsmen were Todd Skemp, a friend from Milwaukee, and Randy Ernst,
the groom’s brother of Madison. Ushering were David Ernst, the groom’s brother
of Philadelphia, Penn., and Greg Heiman, the bride’s brother, of Neillsville.
The bride chose a tea-length gown and carried a bouquet of pink and white
flowers. Her attendants were attired in pink and carried flowers similar to the
bride’s. The groom was attired in white, and his attendants wore blue and white.
Following the service, a reception was held at the Wild Cat Inn.
Prenuptial events included a July 7 shower hosted by Deanna, Ann and Loiz
Heiman.
The couple will make their home in Milwaukee. She is a graduate of Neillsville
High School and earned a BS degree from UW-Madison. She is employed as a teacher
for Webster Middle School in Cedarburg. He is a graduate of Hortonville High
School and took a BS degree in finance and MS degree in accounting from
UW-Milwaukee. He is employed as an auditor.

Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi served as the June 30 site for the wedding of
Susan Marie Hill and Bruce Alan Strangfeld. The Rev. Merill Herder officiated.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Herman Strangfeld of Neillsville and the
late Mr. and Mrs. James Hill of Mondovi.
Merlin Mikelson, the bride’s brother-in-law, presented the bride to the altar.
Music was offered by Joanne Horan, Carol Michaelson and Phillip and Ruth and
Knutson.
Nancy Elcano, a friend of the bride from Sparks, Nevada, was matron of honor.
She was joined by Kim Hill, the bride’s niece of Eau Claire; and Amy Mikelson,
another niece of the bride from Mondovi. The bride’s personal attendant was Jean
Opelt, a friend from Green Bay; and handling flowers was Lella Burgdorf, the
groom’s sister of Kiel.
Jim Woodmansee, a friend from Eau Claire, was bestman. He was joined by Larry
and Jeff Strangfeld, both brothers of the groom from Neillsville. Ushering were
Rick Burgdorf, the groom’s brother-in-law of Kiel; and Steve Mikelson, the
bride’s nephew of Mondovi.
The bride chose an organza gown with a Victorian-styled Schiffli lace yoke, lace
trimmed sleeves, lacy ruffled bodice and hemline and semi-cathedral-length
train. She wore a matching picture-style hat trimmed in Venician lace and
carrying a silk illusion veil. She carried a cascade of white roses,
stephanotis, baby’s breath and greenery. Her attendants wore light blue,
floor-length gowns accented by a lace and ruffled yoke. The headpieces were
halos of silk white roses and stephanotis, and blue ribbon streamers. They
carried cascades of eucalyptus and stephanotis, accented by glue lighted
candles. The groom and his attendants were attired in Silver Hampton-style
tuxedos.
Following the service, a dinner reception and dance was held at the Eau Claire
Holiday Inn. The couple announced that they would be taking a wedding trip to
Hawaii.
Prenuptial events included a kitchen showe3r hosted by Jeanne and Cindy
Strangfeld; a personal shower by friends of the bride; and miscellaneous showers
hosted by both Manz Elementary teachers and third graders.
Eau Claire is to be the home for the new couple. She is a graduate of UW-Eau
Claire and is an elementary teacher in the Eau Claire system. He is a graduate
of District I Tech-Eau Claire and is employed at Cray Research, Eau Claire.

Shelly Lisa Rhoades and Steven Raymond Fowler were united in marriage at the
home of the bride’s parents at rural Neillsville. Judge Howard Latton of Portage
officiated at the lawn ceremonies on Tuesday afternoon, July 31. Parents of the
couple are Herb and Glenna Rhoades, rural Neillsville, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
Fowler of East Patchogue New York.
Witnessing for the couple were Sandi Bardo, the bride’s sister of Mauston; and
Dan Jacobson, a friend of the groom from Viroqua.
The bride chose a Victorian style lace gown with mantilla. She carried a bouquet
of silk roses and daisies. Her attendant wore a lavender, street-length dress
and carried a bouquet of white and lavender daisies. The groom was attired in
his army uniform.
Following the service, a reception was held at the Rhoade’s home. The couple
announced wedding trip plans to Minnesota, Texas and Florida.
The new Mrs. Fowler is a 1977 graduate of Neillsville High School. She recently
graduated from a communication radar intercept school at Fort Devens. Her
husband is a 1975 graduate of Bellport High School, Bellport, New York.

Debra Lyn Riehle and Kenneth John Wetzel were married in services conducted by
Rev. Norman W. Lindloff at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Neillsville,
on Saturday afternoon, July 28. Mr. and Mrs. James Riehle of Mosinee and Mr. and
Mrs. Walter Wetzel, Rt. 4 Neillsville, are parents of the couple.
Sharon Nemitz and Linda Krehmeyer offered music for the service.
Serving as maid of honor was Shelly Drewek of Wausau. He was joined by Karlyn
Mohr of Neillsville, Sheila Wetzel of Neillsville, Lori Riehle of Mosinee and
Marilyn Wagner of Marshfield. Bestman was Charles Statz of Neillsville. He was
joined by Dean and Jim Wetzel, Randy Roehl and Tim Bleecker. Ushering were Todd
Nemitz, and Tim Tresemer. All are from Neillsville. Miniature bride and groom
were Jennifer Foemmel and Ryan Hoffman.
The bride chose a bouffant gown of sheer organza and Chantilly lace, featuring a
high neckline, bishop sleeves, and ruffled and flounced hemline that swept into
a cathedral-length train. Her lace-covered picture-style hat supported a
waltz-length veil. She carried a pink and white bouquet of orchids, roses and
carnations.
Following the service, receptions were held at the Neillsville American Legion
Hall and at the home of the groom’s parents. A dance followed at the Silver Dome
Ballroom.
The couple will make their home in Neillsville. She is a 1982 graduate of
Mosinee High School and attended Mid-State Tech-Marshfield. She is employed as a
secretary for the Marshfield Canning Company. Her husband, a 1983 graduate of
Neillsville High School, is employed by Gaier Construction of Neillsville.

Arlene Skwierczynski and John Regalia were united in marriage on Saturday
afternoon, July 28, in services at rural Neillsville’s Immanuel Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Ralph Stuebs officiated. Parents of the bride are Stanley Skwierczynski
of Des Moines, Iowa, and Frances Skwierczynski of Thorp. The grooms parents are
Mr. and Mrs. John Regalia, Rt. 1 Willard.
Karen Hoppa provided special music for the service.
Serving as matron of honor was Chris Regalia, the groom’s mother. She was joined
by Corinne Skwierczynski, the bride’s sister of Stanley; Natalie Skwierczynski,
the bride’s sister of Thorp; and Patty Regalia, the groom’s sister of Willard.
Bestman was John Regalia, the groom’s father of Willard. He was joined by
friends Don Westby of Janesville, Mark Kercher of Neillsville and Jim VandeBerg
of Neillsville. Ushering were Florian Skwierczynski, the bride’s brother of
Thorp, and John Krueger, the groom’s brother-in-law of Marshfield. Ring bearer
was Steven Gwiazda and candle bearer was Stuart Gwiazda. Both are the bride’s
sons.
The bride chose a traditional lace gown with hat. She carried a fan adorned with
white carnations and red silk roses. Her attendants wore long, blue gowns with
blue lace and carried silk flowers in white, blue and red hues. The groom was
attired in a white tuxedo and his attendants wore blue tuxedos.
Following the service a reception was held at the home of the groom’s parents.
The couple announced wedding trip plans to Menomonie.
The new Mr. and Mrs. Regalia will make their home at rural Greenwood. She is a
graduate of Thorp High School. He is a graduate of Greenwood High School and is
employed at the Neillsville Foundry.

Mahoney, Grace (25 May 1919 – 1 August 1984)
Funeral services were held on Saturday morning, August 4, for Grace Mahoney of
Chili. The Rev. Calvin Carey officiated at the Immanuel United Methodist Church
services in Chili. Burial was made in the Town of Lynn Cemetery; the Gilbertson
Funeral Home of Granton was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mahoney, 65, died Wednesday afternoon, August 1, at her Chili home.
The deceased (nee Haburn) was born on May 25, 1919, in Cherokee, Iowa. On May
14, 1937, she married Max Mahoney in Iowa ceremonies. In 1956, they moved to a
farm in the Town of Fremont and in 1977 into Chili.
Surviving here, besides her husband, are six daughters, Mrs. Laurence (Janice)
Peterson of Elk Point, South Dakota, Mrs. Kenneth (Eileen) Mott of Fort
Campbell, Kentucky, Mrs. Richard (Carol) Bell, Mrs. Charles (Susan) Heiting and
Mrs. Ronald (Nancy) Immerfall, all of Marshfield, and Barbara Mahoney, Chili.
Joining them is a son, Donald, Loyal. Also surviving are nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald, who was killed in 1966 in Vietnam; a
brother; and a sister.
