Luttinen, Joyce (16 March 1937 – 3 October 2023)

Joyce (Warren) Luttinen, age 86 of Abbotsford, passed away on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

She was born on March 16th, 1937, to John & Ida (Nuutinen) Warren in North York, at the Nuutinen Homestead by her Grandmother, Ida Nuutinen, mid-wife.

Joyce went to Section V Elementary School and graduated from Mellen High School in 1955. She married Kenneth Luttinen on April 12th, 1958, at the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church in Marengo, Wisconsin. She worked at the Glenwood Hills Hospital in Golden Valley, Minnesota and at the Continental Manor in Abbotsford as a CNA and Restorative Therapy Aide for 26 years. Joyce loved playing the harmonica, family gatherings, especially St. Urho’s Day, singing church songs, coffee-breaks on the patio, going up north and listening to country music.

She is survived by 4 children; Pam (Randy) Schindler Runge – Medford, David Luttinen –Abbotsford, Karen (Mike) Carey – Unity and Donna (Barry) Fetting – Chili, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Shirl Scheistl, Robert Warren, Sue Wiener, and many brothers and sisters in faith.

She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, a daughter, Diane Larsen, a son–in–law, Mike Schindler and a granddaughter, Nancy Larsen, parents John & Ida Nuutinen, Siblings; Eleanor LeDell, Wallace Warren, Jack Warren, Joann Kivi, Lois O’Dovero, Mary Kivi.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, October 9, 2023, at the Finnish Apostolic Lutheran Church in Marengo, Wisconsin with Jeff Iisakka officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M., Monday at the church. Burial will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Marengo, following the service.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the physicians and staff at the Marshfield Medical Center for the compassionate care provided during her stay.

Mark Richard O’Connell, age 42, passed away on October 5, 2023, at the Marshfield Medical Center, Neillsville.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 PM at Columbia Cemetery in the township of Hewitt.

Mark was born on March 27, 1981, in New York.

Mark had a passion for farming. He was a loving kind, funny romantic passionate man. He loved video games and playing board games.

He grew up in Pennsylvania and was raised in the Amish/Mennonite community. He left the community after meeting his fiancé Fannie Mae Miller and they moved to Wisconsin together.

Raasch, Dean Allan (3 February 1969 – 3 October 2023)

Dean Raasch, age 54, of Granton, died Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at the Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

Dean Allan Raasch was born on February 3, 1969, in Medford, the son of William and Joyce (Messmann) Raasch. He attended schools in Medford and Colby, and then worked at Weathershield, Leeson and, most recently, MEC in Neillsville. On July 22, 2017, he was united in marriage to Tina Schmitt at Mead Lake. They have resided in Granton for the past 18 years.

Dean was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Stetsonville. He was an avid hunter, especially bow hunting and fisherman. He would often walk the woods just to scout out the wildlife. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, and sitting on his deck at their cabin listening to Kenny Rogers music.

He is survived by his wife, Tina, children, Tara Weiler of Medford, Cody Raasch of Medford, Nicole Raasch of Granton, Samantha Schultz of Chili, Matthew (Delilah) Schnabel of Granton, and Alexander Schnabel of Chili, seven siblings, Ronald (Kristen) Raasch of Medford, Tammy (Jeff) Lange of Medford, Michelle Raasch of Dorchester, Brian (Tina) Raasch of Colby, Kari (Gary) Lyon of Abbotsford, Dana (Kevin) Fechhelm of Abbotsford, and Ann Hoffman of Osseo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant sister, Kathy.

A Memorial Service for Dean will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, WI. Pastor Terry Marg will officiate. Interment will be in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Stetsonville, WI at a later date. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11;00 a.m. Tuesday at the Gesche Funeral Home.

Weber, Gary Alan (30 July 1947 – 14 August 2023) With Flag

Gary Alan Weber, 76, husband, father, and longtime resident of Elmhurst, IL, passed away at home on Monday, August 14, 2023.

Gary was born to Bernice and Donald Weber in Beloit, on July 30, 1947. Gary graduated from Beloit Memorial High School in 1966 and moved to Chicago to attend the American Academy of Art.

During his time at the American Academy, he met his fellow classmate, a Wisconsinite, Sharon Trybula. Their first date was under the clock of Marshall Fields on State Street. After a freak dating incident where he broke his arm cushioning Sharon’s fall during an evening of ice skating, the two became inseparable. Eventually, they married on November 22nd, 1969.

Gary kept his draft in the U.S. Army a secret until after the honeymoon. One week later he was sent to Fort Campbell in Kentucky for basic training. He then went on to Fort Gordon in Georgia for military police training. After his training he was stationed at Fort Meade in Maryland. In 1971, he was honorably discharged from the Army. Upon his return to Chicago, he worked for Levitt Design and moved to Elmhurst, IL to work for Image Systems. In 1976, he started his 29-year long career with Don Deforest and Associates. As an art director, he worked on brands like Golden Books, Keebler, and Quaker Oats.

Upon retiring, Gary embraced his hobbies at home. He was an obsessive gardener, thrifty, and grower of Zinnias and tomatoes. He baked constantly, always experimenting with new recipes. No one ever left their house without a container of brownies and/or banana bread. He and Sharon shared 53 years of marriage together. After a wonderful family outing for his 76th birthday to see the art of Andy Warhol, Gary left us doing the thing he loved most, tending to his beautiful garden.

He is survived by his wife Sharon, his children Lisa and Dan (wife Molly), his brother David Weber (wife Cheri), nephew Randy Weber (wife Deedra), niece Dianne Weber, as well as many great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his niece, Linda Kubokawa.

Schmidt, Diane Joyce (16 Jun 1977)

Diane Joyce Schmidt and Randall Peter Grube were married June 16, 1977 in a 3 p.m. service at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Rev. Robin Fink officiated.

The bride’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Donald F. Schmidt, Sr., of Colby, while the groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Victor Grube, Sr. of Owen.

The bride’s dress was a floor length dress with satin trim and lace. The veil was a long train, trimmed with lace. The headpiece consisted of a cap made of flowers and orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet made up of red and white carnations and daisies.

The maid of honor was Sharon Hamus of Unity, friend of the bride. Bridesmaids were Dawn Riehl of Abbotsford, a friend of the bride, Donelle Schmidt of Colby, a sister of the bride, and Darla Schmidt, Colby, a sister of the bride.

The bridesmaids wore green, yellow and blue dresses, trimmed with lace.

The best man was Dale Hobrock of Marquette, Michigan, a friend of the groom. Groomsmen were Victor Grube, Jr., Greenwood, a brother of the groom, Kenneth Parmewicz of Eau Claire, a friend of the groom, Randolph Voge, Owen, a friends of the groom, and Darwin Schmidt of Colby, a brother of the bride.

Flower girls were Julie Sobeck, a niece of the groom, of Abbotsford, and Jeanne Uttecht, Birnamwood, a nice of the bride. Ushers were Edward Bruger, Jr. of Dorchester and Donald Schmidt, Jr. of Colby.

Paula Kops sang two solos during the ceremony, “We’ve Only Just Begun” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” The organist was Mrs. Sally Heindl.

Following the wedding, a reception and dinner were held at the Colby Hotel. The wedding dance was held at the Unity Memorial Hall. Following a honeymoon trip to the Wisconsin Dells, the couple is living in Abbotsford.

He is a 1974 graduate of Owen-Withee High School, and is employed by Marathon Cheese in Medford. She is a 1977 graduate of Colby High School, and is employed at the Abby Café.

The Abbotsford High School class of 1927 held a 50-year reunion July 30, 1977. Of the 25 class members, 12 were present. Seven are deceased.

A get acquainted time was at the home of Mrs. Edna Peterson, with Mrs. Catherine Bahr at the punch table. A tour of the high school preceded dinner at Medo Farm Restaurant.

Decorations included a floral arrangement in the class colors of lavender and white, by Mrs. Mart Dolan, and a decorated cake depicting school books, with a miniature school and flag.

“Retirement” was the theme of an evening reminiscing. Ronald Herrmann extended an invitation to his home in Columbus one year from now, the last Saturday in July.

The Colby High School graduating class of 1942 held its 35th reunion dinner at the VFW at Colby on Saturday, July 30, 1977.

Cocktails preceded dinner, with music by “The Dallenbachs” following. Arrangements for the gathering were made by a committee of Arvin Fischer, Marie Waldhart, Emanuel Firnstahl and Howard Rannow.

Howard Rannow acted as master of ceremonies, and Marie Waldhart read letters from several former classmates unable to attend. The group voted unanimously to hold a similar get-together in five years, with Delores, Jacobs, Marjorie Jost, Orville Fricke and Arvin Dommer on the committee.

Prizes were awarded to Lee Elstrom for traveling the longest distance; Hildegarde Augustine, first reservation; Galen Comeaux, gaining the most weight; Orville Fricke, least amount of hair; and Marjorie Jost, for having the most grandchildren (10).

Mrs. Margaret (Strathman) Zellmer, 62, Green Lake, died July 28, 1977 at Ripon Memorial Hospital, Green Lake.

The former Margaret Strathman was born June 24, 1915 in Colby. She received her education in Colby, graduating in 1933. She married Frederick Zellmer on October 26, 1946.

She is survived by her husband and three brothers, Arnold, Edward and Harold, all of Colby. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Strathman.

She reposed at the Butzen-Merchant Funeral Home, Ripon, with service at the Peace Lutheran Church, Green Lake, July 30.

Pallbearers were three nephews, Richard, David and Daniel Strathman, Gary Gneiser, Roger Alvin and Joe Schultz.

Interment was at the Deerfield Cemetery, Green Lake.

John Hutman of Hutman Heating just received his Lennox Solar certification at a school recently, taught at the Lennox Plant at Marshalltown, Iowa.

While there they saw manufacturing of the panels and several applications include were sizing of domestic commercial heating, as well as supplemental hot water heating systems.

The Abbotsford High School Class of 1962 held its 15-year reunion on July 30, 1977.

Activities started with swimming in the Abbotsford School pool, an even well received by those participating. Harold Mills, Superintendent, provided the graduates with a complete tour of the current educational facilities.

Graduates were impressed by the quality of buildings and equipment, especially the pool and industrial arts. Class members recalled that in 1962 the high school had only seven class rooms.

The social evening took place at the Olde Cedar House. A cocktail hour and meal were followed by a program, conducted by Master of Ceremonies, Roger Baehr.

Gag gifts were awarded to Verl Verhulst, Pat (Denzin) Fischer, Pat (Schindler) Krause, Janice (Weideman) Mullarkey, Martin Hackel, and Mary Bumann.

Lucky Verl Verhulst also won the door prize. A cash donation was made to the children of Carol (Busse) Palchik, deceased class member.

Class members were presented with a booklet detailing activities of classmates for the last 15 years.
