More than 1,500 students have been named to the Honors List for the spring semester at the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, announced Dr. John W. Morris, UW-EC Vice Chancellor.

To be eligible for the honor, a student must receive at least a 3.5 grade point average (where 4.0 equals A) for 12 credits or more of college credit courses.

There were 615 seniors, 307 juniors, 299 sophomore, and 312 freshmen who qualified for the honor.

Sixty people gathered at the American Legion Hall, Loyal, on Saturday evening, July 7, 1979 to celebrated the 30 year class reunion of the Loyal High School class of 1949.

Master of ceremonies was Gene Cook. Betty Landwehr read the Class Prophecy.

The local committee in charge of the arrangement include Donna Lucht, Inez Spuhler, Jim Voigt, Janis Vollrath, Dick Esselman, Gerry Rowley and Milton Knack.

Bio: Oestreich, Lothar – Retiring from Business (Jul 1979)

When he was 24, Lothar Oestreich was a young man experiencing the hard times of a nation in economic turmoil. Job were scarce, if available at all, and as Oestreich recalls, “You didn’t choose in those days. You just took any job.”

With that in mind he decided to help some friends who we reopening a service station on Loyal’s north side. He had planned to help for a week or so, but as things turned out he stayed much longer. Monday marked the end of Oestrich’s fiftieth year and the beginning of his beginning in retirement.

Sunday morning, Oestreich Service became Al’s Service, and Allen Wehrman, a station employee for several years, took over the business. Oestreich will still help out occasionally, but he said, “Fifty years is enough.”

On Saturday, July 7, 1979 at 1 p.m. the Sacred Heart Church, Mondovi, was the scene of the wedding of Miss Constance Bauer, 209 South Main Street, Greenwood, and Steven Bushman, 325 North Reese Street, Greenwood. Father Bernard Rashke officiated and the music was provided by Miss Gigi Plautz, Greenwood, organ, and Mrs. Marcellus Bluem, Eau Claire, soloist.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Mark Brantner, 589 Jefferson Street, Mondovi, and Mr. and Mrs. Al Bushman, Route 1, Greenwood.

Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore her sister’s (Mrs. Jane Norrish) gown and veil and carried a bouquet of silk flowers.

Miss Patrice Bauer, the bride’s sister, St Louis Park, Minnesota, was the maid of honor, and Miss Cindee Osowski, Loyal, and Miss Sue Bushman, (groom’s sister), Dubois, Wyoming, were bridesmaids.

Serving as best man was Ed Brux, Greenwood, and the groomsmen were Gerald Denk, Mt. Prospect, Illinois, and Kevin Syth, Eau Claire. Ushers were Gerald Brantner, Mondovi and Edward Bushman, Wisconsin Rapids.

A reception and dance were held at the Holiday Inn, Eau Claire.

The bride is a 1976 graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, and is a business education instructor at Greenwood High School. The groom is a 1971 graduate of Greenwood High School, and is a service technician for Greenwood Cooperative Services.

The couple is residing at 325 North Reese Street, Greenwood.

On Saturday, June 30, 1979 at 3 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Loyal, Miss Linda Louis Vogel, Route 1, Loyal, became the bride of David D. Capelle, Route 1, Loyal. The Rev. Pastor Bruno Schlachtenhaufen officiated, and music was provided by Ron Gluch, organist, and Doug and Deb Hyde, singers.

Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Capelle, Route 1, Loyal, and Mr. Charles Vogel and Mrs. Virginia Werner, Milwaukee.

The maid of honor was Miss Julie Vogel, Milwaukee, and the bridesmaids were Mary Marson, Hudson, Siri Hanson, River Falls, and Barb Walick, Park Falls.

Serving as best man was Larry Capelle, Warrens, Wisconsin. Groomsmen were Dr. Tom Goerke, Bill Pfalzgraf and Mark Forsyth. Ushers were John Galgowski, River Falls and Dennis Roloff, Waupaca.

A dinner followed the ceremony in the church Fellowship Hall, and a reception and dance at Leffel’s Supper Club.

The bride is a 1974 graduate of Hamilton High School, Milwaukee, and a 1978 graduate of UW-River Falls. She is a freelance artist. The groom is a 1974 graduate of Loyal High School, and a 1978 graduate of UW-River Falls, and is a sales representative for Select Sires.

A wedding trip is being postponed until fall. The couple will make their home at Route 1, Loyal.

News: Granton – Two New Wells (1979)

Granton residents won’t have to worry about a water shortage for several years because of two new wells that are serving them.

The two wells are capable of providing 720,000 gallons of water a day, according to figures provided by R. W. Zaborowski, Thorp, of Cooper Engineering, Rice Lake, which supervised the project. Zaborowski said that he is being conservative in estimating that wells will yield 500 gallons a minute, and eventually 720,000 gallons a day. Public works Directory Dale Wesenberg said that under ordinary conditions, Granton uses 27,00 gallons of water a day.

Pvt. Clark A. Ritter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arlyn P. Ritter, Granton, recently completed training as a connoneer under the One Station Unit Training (OSUT) program at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

OSUT is a 13-week period which combine basic combat training with advanced individual training.

Students learned the duties of a howitzer or gun section crewman and received instruction in handling ammunition, setting fueses and preparing charges, communications and maintenance.

Ritter entered the Army in April of this year.

The private is a 1977 graduate of Granton Public High School.

The 33rd annual reunion of the Edmund Kuester family was held at the Arthur Kuester home on July 15, 1979.

The group attended church services at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Riplinger, with Rev. Ault as pastor. Dawn Neuman was the organist, and after services pictures were taken and dinner served in the garage, also a letter was read from Arnold Kuester, who could not attend.

In the afternoon, volleyball, games and cards were played. A hayride was held and then supper served. Visiting was enjoyed by all, then most of them departed for home. Some left for their vacation up north.
