Wagner, Dorothy Ann (Wilson) Hawks (01 MAR 1935 - 28 FEB 2013)
Dorothy Ann (Hawks) Wagner, on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at 2:15 a.m., passed
away peacefully with family members by her side at Serenity House, a hospice
facility in Sun City West, Ariz., after a lengthy struggle due to complications
following cardiac surgery in January.
She was born in Waukegan, Ill., on March 1, 1935, to John and Lily (Mattila)
Wilson, graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1952, and married A. Dean Hawks
on May 23, 1953. They had four children, Deanna, Darrell, Donna and Douglas,
whom they raised in Marshfield. She was widowed in March of 1995, then in
October 1997 was married to George W. Wagner of Minnesota. They resided for the
past several years in Sun City, Ariz.
In the early years, Dorothy was a stay-at-home mother, involved in Camp Fire
Girls as den mother, PTA and her church, Faith Lutheran of Marshfield. Later she
rejoined the work force, most of which was as an administrative assistant at the
Marshfield Medical Research Foundation of Marshfield Clinic where she worked
until her retirement.
Surviving family members include husband, George; sister, Norma (Harold) Kalepp,
Abbotsford; former in-laws, Dorothy “Dottie” (Robert) Hawks, Sun City, Ariz.,
Shirley (Bill) Schreffler, Stanley, Dave (Adele) Hawks, Las Vegas, Nev., Rod
Hawks, Curtiss, Linda (Larry) Lundt, Clintonville; children, Deanna (John)
Schilling, Fall Creek, Darrell (Marie) Hawks, Hewitt, Donna Thompson,
Marshfield, Douglas (Marla) Hawks, Marshfield; grandchildren, Dana, Kelly, Amy,
Jennifer, Stacy, Nathaniel, Alison, Alyssa, Matthew, Lacey, Nolan, Sonja and
Gavin; seven great-grandchildren; one aunt, Elsie Schultz; along with
innumerable cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dean; brother, Fred, and his
wife, Dawn; brother-in-law, Bob Hawks; nephew, Radley Hawks; and
great-grandchildren, Riley and Karsen Prock.
Two memorial services are being held to celebrate Dorothy’s life. The first
being at American Lutheran Church of Sun City, Ariz., on Monday, March 4, at
1:30 p.m., the second on Saturday, March 9, at 2 p.m. at Rembs Funeral Home in
Marshfield. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Marshfield service,
also at Rembs.
The family requests that memorials be given to organizations dear to Dorothy’s
heart, either the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Deepest thanks go out to all of the wonderful, caring, respectful personnel who
have been involved in our mother’s care throughout these past several weeks,
including the physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers, etc., at all three
facilities involved include Banner Boswell Hospital, Restora Hospital and
Serenity House. You will all forever hold a special place in our hearts.
