Schafer, Mr. and Mrs. William (Golden - 1984)
September 2 is the open house date for the celebration of William Schafer’s and
Lydia Moeller’s wedding date back in 1934 in Maquoketa, Iowa.
The golden anniversary celebration will be held at the Pittsville American
Legion club from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and is to be hosted by the couple’s children.
Mr. and Mrs. Schafer make their home at rural Pittsville. The couple have nine
children. Daughters of the couple are Mrs. Harold (Nettie) Freedlund,
Pittsville; Alice Schafer, Loves Park, Illinois; Mrs. Melvin (Neda) Johnson,
Machesney Park, Illinois; Mrs. Peter (Paula) Draheim, Pittsville; and Helen
Rosquest, Rockford, Illinois. Joining them are three sons: Calvin, Sr.,
Rockford, Illinois; Wayne, Loves Park, Illinois; and Ralph, Pittsville. They are
joined by 22 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Dorn, Mildred (11 August 1984)
Abbotsford’s First Presbyterian Church was the August 11 site of the wedding of
Mildred Dorn of Neillsville and William Strausborger of Mesa, Arizona.
Attending the couple were Linda Richter, the bride’s daughter of Minneapolis, as
matron of honor; and Marilyn Strausborger, the groom’s daughter of Casper,
Wyoming. Bestman was Terry Dorn, the bride’s son of Colby; he was joined by
Kenneth Olson, the bride’s brother of Neillsville. Ushering were Kai Richter of
Minneapolis and Scott Dorn of Colby; both are the bride’s grandsons.
The couple will make their home after September 15, in Mesa, Arizona.
Prior to the wedding ceremony, the bride’s great granddaughter was baptized.
Jamie is the daughter of Bruce and Sherri Elmer of Colby.

Johnson, Theresa Ann (21 July 1984)
Theresa Ann Johnson and Paul Jon Ripp were united in marriage at Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church, Alma Center, on July 21. Parents of the couple are
Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson of Rt. 1 Merrillan, and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Ripp,
of Rt. 1 Merrillan.
The bride chose an off-the-shoulder gown featuring white ribbon lace,
short-puffed sleeves, fitted bodice and waist, yoke front and bouffant skirt.
She had a chapel-length train and wore a headpiece of pearlized orange blossoms,
pearls and baby’s breath. Her bouquet was of red roses, pink and white
carnations, white mums, baby’s breath and greens.
Jill Johnson served as maid of honor with Brenda Trachsel, Cindy Johnson, Lisa
Ripp and Sherry Matalas as bridesmaids. Bridgett Trachsel was flowergirl. They
wore sheer, pink off-the-shoulder gowns with puffed sleeves and silk rose rim on
the shoulder. They carried bouquets similar to the bride’s.
Harry Janke served as bestman. He was joined by Wayne Ripp, David Ripp, Steve
Schriebe and Rick Laufenberg. Guests were seated by Randy Johnson, Sr., and Bill
Johnson. Miniature ushers were Bjorn Olson and Tyge Olson.
Music at the service was offered by Theresa Sanders and Nelda Stuve.
A reception was held at Merrillan’s Gile Memorial Park, followed by an evening
dance at Hatfield’s Inwood Ballroom.
After a Bahama’s honeymoon, the couple will make their home at rural Black River
Falls. The bride and groom are employed by Ripp Distributing.

Jayne Marie Mueller and John Francis Urlaub were united in marriage on Saturday
afternoon, August 4, in services at Marshfield’s Christ Lutheran Church. The
Rev. T. Bradtke officiated. Parents of the bride are Nina Reetz of Marshfield
and Eddie Mueller of Mosinee. The groom’s parents are Ben and Jennie Urlaub. Rt.
1 Neillsville.
Music at the service was offered by Terry and Bonnie Wanta.
Matron of honor was Cheri Kappel of Marshfield. She was joined by Theresa
Hediger, Neillsville; Nancy Seelow, Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Julie Graves,
Marshfield; and Marilyn Urlaub-Brown, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Bestman was Jeff Miller of Neillsville. He was joined by Jim Spiegel, Randy
Hediger and Jim and Jeff Urlaub, all of Neillsville. Ushering were Joe and Brian
Urlaub, both of Neillsville, and Jim Mueller, Marshfield.
The bride chose a modified Victorian-style gown of chiffon and satin featuring
appliqués of Alencon lace trimmed with seed pearls. She wore a chiffon
derby-style hat accented with lace and seed pearls and carried a cascade of pink
roses, white miniature carnations and ivy. Her attendants wore ash rose and
huckleberry hued crepe, floor-length gowns and carried cascades of lilies and
stephanotis.
Following the wedding, a reception was held at the Loyal American Legion Hall.
The couple announced that they would delay their wedding trip (Caribbean cruise)
to the new year.
The new Mr. and Mrs. Urlaub will make their home in Marshfield. She is a 1978
graduate of Marshfield Senior High School and in 1981 from Mid-State
Tech-Marshfield. She is a certified medical assistant. He is a 1977 graduate of
Neillsville High School and is a heavy equipment operator for Arthur Overgaard
Construction.

Cheda Ann Vine and Danyl Raymond Herman were united in marriage on Saturday
afternoon, July 28, at Granton’s Zion Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) with the
Rev. Kevin Winter officiating. The groom’s daughter, Chelsea, gave her father to
the bride. Also attending the event was the groom’s mother, Mrs. Germaine Herman
of Marshfield.
Serving as matron of honor was Kathy Garbisch, the bride’s sister of Granton.
Bestman was Sam Bohy, a friend from Spencer.
Following the service, a reception was held at the Granton Sportsmen’s Club. The
couple announced wedding trip plans for central Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
The bride chose a pink, street-length, Victorian-style dress. She carried a
bouquet of a white carnation and six pink roses; she wore a full halo of pink
roses and baby’s breath. Her attendant wore a dress in turquoise hues and
featuring pineapple hued pleating; she carried white carnations and
reddish-orange roses. The groom was attired in a dark blue, pinstriped suit, as
was his attendant.
The couple will make their home at rural Neillsville. She is a 1970 graduate of
Beloit High School and graduated from Madison Beauty College in 1971. He is a
1970 graduate of Columbus High School in Marshfield and served in the U.S. Army.
He is employed in the maintenance department at Lynn Dairy.
Prenuptial events included a shower hosted by Kris Kernz and Karen and Beverly
Greeler.

Bush, Regina (7 March 1905 – 13 August 1984)
Regina Bush, 79, of Rt. 1, Neillsville, died on Monday afternoon, August 13, in
St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
Funeral services were to be held today (Thursday), August 16) at 1:30 p.m. from
the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, with the Rev. Howard Ott of the united
Methodist Church officiating. Burial is to be made in the Neillsville City
Cemetery; pallbearers were to be Reuben Larson, Doug and George St. John and
Alan, Jeff and Hilbert Naedler. (The body was to lie in state on Wednesday
evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and again for one hour prior to services at the
funeral home.
The deceased was born on March 7, 1905, in Fairchild to Frank and Alvina
(Maystick) Koboski. She received her education and graduated from Fairchild High
School and then attended a business college in Milwaukee.
On December 31, 1927, she married Glen R. Bush in Winona, Minnesota, ceremonies.
The couple made their home in Marshfield where she worked for Roddis Lumber
Company for several years. Then they farmed in the Towns of York and Levis until
retiring in 1961 when they moved to a Town of Pine Valley residence. She was a
member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving her are three daughters, Mrs. Rueben (Marlene) Larson of Fullerton,
California, Mrs. George (Macel) St. John of Salem and Mrs. Alan (Darla) Naedler
of Neillsville; a sister, Mrs. Alex (Bergetta) Lisiecki, Hixton; a brother,
Victor Koboski, Sparta; and nine grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband (June 30, 1983); a sister,
Ruth; and three brothers, Andrew, Sylvester and Tony.

Hubing, George W. (20 September 1897 – 9 August 1984)
The former owner and manager of the Hubing Apartments in Neillsville died on
Thursday afternoon, August 9, in Neillsville Memorial Hospital. The deceased is
George W. Hubing, who was 86 at the time of his death.
Hubing was born on September 20, 1897, in the Town of Grant to Nicholas and Mary
(Puetz) Hubing. After his rural education, he farmed in the Town of Grant.
During this time (April 4, 1921) he married Hazel Cramer in Neillsville
ceremonies.
In 1929, the couple moved into Neillsville, and he worked as a milk hauler for
the American Stores Dairy for about 15 years. In March of 1947, they moved to
the former Lowe Funeral Home on Clay Street where he remodeled the large
structure into apartments. The couple managed the apartments for 35 years.
Hubing was also employed for several years by Bowman Dairy and for the
Neillsville Schools in the maintenance department.
The Hubings made their retirement home on south Grand Avenue, Neillsville. He
was a member of the United Church of Christ.
Surviving him, besides his wife, is a daughter, Mrs. William (Betty) Lowe,
Neillsville; a sister, Marie Halstead, West Union, Iowa; four grandchildren; and
five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers and two
sisters.
Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon, August 12, from the Gesche
Funeral Home in Neillsville. The Rev. Howard Ott of the United Methodist Church
officiated. Burial was made on Monday in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Schield, Alice M. (8 February 1886 – 7 August 1984)
Campbellsport native Alice M. Schield, 97, died in Neillsville Memorial Hospital
after a brief illness on Tuesday, August 7.
Mrs. Schield last made her home with her son and daughter-in-law at 39 Huron
St., Neillsville. Prior to that she lived for many years on South Hewett Street,
Neillsville.
The deceased was born in Campbellsport on February 8, 1886, to Frank and Regina
(Hess) Mathieu. After her education in local schools she moved to Milwaukee and
worked there. On June 15, 1915, she married Joseph R. Schield in Campbellsport
ceremonies and the couple moved to the Neillsville area where they farmed. After
a short time they moved into the city and remained there the rest of their
lives.
She was a member of St. Mary’s parish and its Parish Council of Catholic Women.
Surviving her is a son, Dr. Carroll Schield, Neillsville; seven grandchildren;
and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband (April 5,
1968); four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were held on Friday morning, August 10, from St. Mary’s
Catholic Church in Neillsville. The Rev. Joseph Henseler officiated, with burial
made in the parish cemetery.
