Halida, Edward (27 NOV 1917 - 4 MAR 2013)

Edward Halida, 95, Lublin, died on Monday, March 4 at Golden LivingCenter-Three Oaks in Marshfield. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Polish National Catholic Church in Lublin. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Thorp Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Edward Halida, age 95, of Lublin, a resident of the Golden Living Center in Marshfield, Wisconsin, entered eternal rest on March 4, 2013.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church, Lublin. Rev. Marion Talaga will officiate and interment will follow in St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Edward was born in Chicago, IL on November 27, 1917, to John and Mary (Jopa) Halida. He spent some of his youth in Illinois, Kentucky and West Virginia and later settled in Wisconsin.

He married Verna Glende on January 20, 1945 at St. Mary’s Polish National Catholic Church, Lublin.

He was employed in the coal mines of West Virginia, Hurd Millwork, farmed in Withee and then moved to Lublin in 1963. He was later employed in road construction and at Presto in Eau Claire. Edward also was employed with the Taylor County forestry Department until his retirement.

Edward enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool, gardening, ginseng harvesting and baseball. As a young man, he had the opportunity to pitch in the minor leagues for the Cleveland Indians until he sustained an injury. He also played the harmonica for a short time on WIGM in Medford and continued to play throughout his life.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy (William) Maas, Phoenix, AZ; Joyce Fetting, Marshfield; four sons: John (Edith), Colby; Walter (Victoria), Chippewa Falls; Terry (Cheryl), Chippewa Falls; Todd (Kristine), Eau Claire; daughter-in-law: Jean Halida, Plymouth; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 1 brother, Lawrence (Harriet) Halida, Loyal.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; his ex-wife, Verna; 2 sons, Roy in 1983 and Robert in 1999; one granddaughter, Tammy Halida in 1967; three sisters, Dorothy, Helen and Virginia; three brothers, Leo, Frank and Stanley.
