Fairchild: KILLED BY FOUR HUNDRED (“400” train) – Peter Gorkowski, 72, a resident of Fairchild for the past three years, net death under the wheels of he “400” streamliner on Saturday at the crossing on the southern edge of the village.
Mr. Gorkowski was “hard of hearing” and apparently did not notice the approach of the streamliner. A freight train had just cleared the crossing and it is the belief that Mr. Gorkowski thought the way was clear after the passing of the freight.
Mr. Gorkowski is survived by his widow and three children.
