M. FOX, proprietor restaurant and saloon, Eau Claire, was born in Switzerland, Jan. 17, 1828. Came to New York in 1855. Went to Indiana and lived one year, and in May, 1856, he came to Wisconsin, locating at Menomonie, where he remained until l856, when he removed to Eau Claire, where he has since resided. While at Menomonie, he was in the employ of Knapp, Stout & Co. the first seven years, afterward he carried on a hoarding-house and saloon business there. He was married in Menomonie, Oct. 25, 1860, to Mary E. Schmidt. She was born in Baden, Germany, Sept. 5, 1845. They have four children — Edward, Freddie, Mary and Margaret. Mr. Fox was twice Supervisor, while he was a resident of Menomonie. He is a member of the I. O. O. F. and A. O. U. W. Before coming to America, he had been an extensive traveler in Europe, and is among the well-informed citizens of the West.
