H. C. VAN HORENBURG, Eau Claire, was born in Schnectady Co., N. Y.; came West with his parents, they settling in Green Lake Co. in 1842. Remained on the farm until at the age of 20, when he engaged in business as carpenter and joiner; came to Eau Claire in 1856, and followed same business, added to that of millwright for some five or six years, when he associated himself with Mr. Mills, and started the Chippewa Valley News, now known as the Eau Claire News. Commenced present business in 1869. Married in Eau Claire to Miss Mary E. Pease: has five children — Dewitt Joseph, Margaret, Carl Henry, Katherine, Mary E. Mr. Van H. was one of the originators of the West Side city government: is a member of the Temple of Honor.
