SCHOOL MA'AMS AT AUGUSTA .

 

List of Teachers in Attendance and Interesting Statistics.

[Special report to the Daily free press.]

 

The teachers' institute, of five days, at Augusta, closed the 18th instant. Number in attendance 60; males 3, females 57. Average in attendance 54. Of those 2 have hold first grade certificates, 8 second grade, and 38 third grade. Average age of members, 21 years. Average experience in teaching (of those having taught) 30 months. Number not having taught, but intending to teach, 18. Number having previously attended institutes, 39. One member had taught 150 months, and attended 360 days of institute ; another had taught 101 months, and attended 95 days of institute. The number having attended colleges and universities was 2; normal schools 10 ; high schools 43 ; common schools only, 15.

 

There are 67 school districts in the county, requiring 107 teachers at the close of the school year ending May 81, 1882.

 

The institute was successful in every respect. Hon. Robert Graham, state superintendent, and President W. D. Parker, of River Falls normal school. were present. Supt. Graham conducted exercises in reading and word analysis, and President Parker in geography. Supt. Graham addressed the teachers at the close of the afternoon session on Thursday.
