----Boehm, Edith R. (26 Jan. 1951 – 18 Nov. 2000)
RED WING, Minn. -- Edith R. "Edie" Boehm, 49, went home to join her Lord and Savior on November 18th. Her husband Rick, her brother, Bob and his wife, Debbie, and good friends Lowell and Carol Peterson, were at her bedside. Edie was at the University Hospital in Portland, Oregon, where she was receiving treatment for the chronic myeloid leukemia that she courageously endured for six years.
Edie was born January 26, 1951, in Charles City, Iowa, to Lindsay and Virgene (Hartwig) Druschel. The family moved to Eau Claire in 1957, where Edie graduated from Memorial High School and received a BS degree in elementary and special education from UW-Eau Claire. After graduation, Edie taught at the Northern Wisconsin Center in Chippewa Falls.
Edie and Rick were married on April 7, 1979, in Eau Claire and started their life together in Prairie du Chien, Wis., where Edie worked for Social Services. In 1980, they moved to Hager City, Wis., where she taught in the Ellsworth Public Schools. In 1990, they moved to Red Wing, Minn., where Edie worked for Zumbro Valley Mental Health Services until she was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1994.
Edie's deep faith in God gave her the positive attitude and strength that she needed. She enjoyed working in her church and visiting others who were ill and needed comfort. Her Bible study group was very important to her, as was her family, and the many friends that she made.
Her surviving loved ones include her loving husband, Rick; her mother, Virgene; her brother, Bob (Debbie) and their daughter, Jessica; Rick's parents, Harry and Rose Boehm; numerous relatives and in-laws.
Edie is joined in heaven by her father, Lindsay (January 26, 1996); Herbert and Clara Hartwig, William and Edith Druschel, Fannie Druschel and a special sister-in-law, Mary Anne Ganrude.
Edie was a loving and kind person who brought much joy to all who knew her. Her warm smile radiated with friendship and comfort. Edie's strength and optimism were an inspiration to many who had much less to endure. She was so very special and will live on in all of us. Our precious Edie, you brought sunshine and happiness to our lives. We love you and will remember you always. Your time with us was truly one of God's blessings.
Memorial services are 1 p.m. Saturday, December 2, 2000, at First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing, Minn., with Reverend Gary Elg officiating. Visitation is at the church on Friday evening from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and again one hour prior to the Saturday service.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers a memorial of your choice.
