Gruber, John (1873? - 9 NOV 1948)

John Gruber, 75, one of Stanley’s pioneer residents, died Wednesday at his home, after a long illness. He was born in Austria, coming to the United States in 1885 with his parents.

His wife, Katherine, survives. He is also survived by 11 children, Paul and George, Milwaukee; Mrs. Russell Folson, Sioux City, Ia.; Raymond, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. William Hanson, Mrs. William Myers, Leo, Eugene and Clarence of Appleton, Wis.; Lawrence and Dorothy of Stanley.

Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Theo Heiting and Mrs. Nick Jankoski, Stanley; Mrs. M.B. Medes, Cloquet, Minn.; and Mrs. John G. Bogumill, Thorp, Wis. A brother, Anton of Stanley, survives.

The funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church with the Rev. Paul Pitzenberger officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
