Johnson, Leonard S. (14 Nov. 1914 - 31 Aug. 1999)

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Leonard S. Johnson, 84, of Minneapolis, Minn., formerly of Longwood, Fla., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born Nov. 14, 1914, in Duluth, Minn., the son of Rose (Cartier) and Frank Johnson. He came to Chippewa Falls in 1935 to work for his uncle who operated a manufacturing company. In 1948 he purchased the business and established Johnson Manufacturing Company, eventually employing 170 people in the Chippewa Falls area. He sold the business in 1967 and retired to Florida for many years, returning to Chippewa Falls during the summer months.

Survivors include one son, Robert Johnson of Minneapolis; two daughters, Dolores (Casey) Sylla of Barrington, Ill. and Rosemary (Phil) Yurgae of Des Moines, Iowa; one daughter-in-law, Marcia (Richard) Larson of Eau Claire; five grandsons, Steven, John, Eric, Jeff and Christopher; four granddaughters, Christine, Meredith, Kara and Dana; and one great granddaughter, Hanna. Other special friends include Mary Pat and Catherine Ann McDowell, Jon Monda and Jerry Daniel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine; one son, James; and his parents.

A memorial service will be held for the immediate family.
