Cutsforth, Juanita E. (17 Sept. 1913 - 22 May 1998)

Juanita E. Cutsforth, 84, a lifelong resident of Chippewa County, died Friday, May 22, 1998, at Lakeside South Nursing and Rehabilitation in Chippewa Falls.

She was born Sept. 17, 1913 in Eagleton, town of Eagle Point, to Emma (Vesper) and Peter McCann. She grew up in the Eagleton and Jim Falls area, graduating from Chippewa Falls High School in 1933.

Juanita married Vallie D. Cutsforth on November 16, 1933, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eagleton. Together they operated grocery stores in Clyde, Pleasant Ridge and Gothom, Wisconsin. Following WWII, they owned and operated Vallie's Tavern in Jim Falls for 23 years. Juanita retired from J.C. Penney Company in Chippewa Falls in 1970.

Juanita was the last surviving grandchild of Daniel and Margaret McCann of "Old Abe, the War Eagle" history. She had a lifelong interest in her family history and Old Abe. She was an honorary member of the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagle" Division, Old Abe Chapter. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Vallie of Chippewa Falls; one son, Marshall (Donna) Cutsforth of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.; one daughter, Valita (Porter) Popple of Chippewa Falls, two grandsons, Christopher (Chonnie) Cutsforth of Whitewater, Colo., Matthew Cutsforth of La Junta, Colo.; three great-grandchildren, Karlyn Cutsforth of Reston, Va., Christopher Marshall Cutsforth of Woodbridge, Va., and Whitney Cutsforth of Whitewater, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Olien McCann, Della McCann, Nora Rudy; and five brothers, Herbert, Nathaniel, Howard, Isadore, and James McCann.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls, with the Rev. Roger Skatrud officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the Chippewa County Federation of Woman's Clubs for the "Old Abe Memorial" at 1424 Terrill St., Apt. 37; Chippewa Falls.
