Parker, Herbert M. (10 June 1928 - 20 Sept. 2008)
Herbert M. Parker, 80, of Milton, formerly of Janesville and Chippewa Falls, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Mercy Hospital. He was born in Chippewa Falls, WI, on June 20, 1928, the son of Walter and Lydia (Gerber) Parker. He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School and served two years in the U.S. Navy, stationed in California and Hawaii. Herb married Corinne E. Biskey on Oct. 14, 1950, in Elk Mound, WI. They moved to Janesville in 1965, and he was employed by General Motors for nearly 25 years before retiring in 1989. He was an active member of First Lutheran Church, Janesville, and Our Savior Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls, serving as usher. Herb was an avid woodworker, building two of his homes. He and Corinne enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. and wintering in Punta Gorda, FL.
He is survived by his wife, Corinne of Milton; two children, Steven Parker of N. Little Rock, AR, and Debra (Bob) Sommers of Milton; two grandchildren, Gregory Cinocco, stationed in Korea, and Jennie Sommers of Janesville; two stepgrandchildren, Terry Sommers and Aaron Sommers, both of Janesville; two stepgreat-grandsons; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Clarence.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 612 N. Randall Ave., Janesville, with Rev. James Melvin officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls, WI.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH. Memorials may be given to First Lutheran Church or to a charity of your choice. SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME is assisting the family.
