Schilling, Herbert A. (9 April 1928 – 20 January 2022) With Flag
Herbert A. Schilling, age 93, of Colby, passed away surrounded by his loving
family on Thursday, January 20, 2022, at the Waterford in Colby under the tender
care of Heartland Hospice.
Herb was born on April 9, 1928, the son of Joseph and Augusta (Sellung)
Schilling. He was united in marriage to Jean Olson on November 30, 1957, at
Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church Parsonage in Dorchester. Together the couple
farmed in the Town of Hull until retiring in 1996. She preceded him in death on
November 16, 2020.
Herb loved farming and his family. He enjoyed being in the woods and cutting
wood. Herb liked to polka dance every Sunday and go to tractor pulls.
Herb is survived by his four children: Terry (Susan) Schilling of Abbotsford,
Scott (Robin) Schilling of Colby, Debra (Bill) Stuttgen of Spencer and Dean
Schilling of Unity; eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Stephen) Hadfield of
Marshfield, Kyle (Rebecca) Schilling of Brookfield, Brandon (Mandy) Schilling of
Dorchester, Dana (Jon) Betz of Mosinee, Mike (Chelsea) Stuttgen of Marshfield,
Tyler (Kristie) Stuttgen of Marshfield, Hannah (Ryan) Loos of Spencer, and
Cassandra (Brett) Venzke of Athens; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is further
survived by a sister-in-law, Lavilla Schilling of Colby and many nieces, nephews
and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; seven siblings: Adaline
(Al) Raasch, Thomas Schilling, Clarence Schilling, Mabel (Harvey) Barts,
Margaret (Harlan) Witt, Ervin Schilling and Irene (Tom) Burdett and a
sister-in-law, Doris Schilling.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran in Colby on
Tuesday, January 25, 2022. Rev. Kevin Hoogland will officiate. Visitation will
be from 9:00 am until the time of service on Tuesday. Burial will follow at the
Colby Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Colby VFW Post
#2227. A live stream will be available for those unable to attend on the Maurina
Schilling Funeral Home Facebook page or after the service anytime on Facebook or
the website. Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Colby is entrusted with the
arrangements.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dawn and the Staff at
Heartland Hospice and to the staff at The Waterford at Colby for their
compassion and care given to their dad and to them. It was very much
appreciated.
