Bishop Marjorie Swank Matthews announced the appointment of the Rev. Charles W.
Strong, pastor of United Methodists Churches at Spencer and Colby, to be
associate pastor of Bashford United Methodist Church in Madison. The appointment
was announced at the 14th session of the Wisconsin Conference June 1-5 at the
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Strong, his wife, Linda and their children, Kirsten and Michael, left for
Madison Wednesday. He came to the Spencer/Colby in June 1978. He was
secretary-treasurer of the Marshfield Area Clergy Association and a member of
the Spencer Lions Club.
His replacement, the Rev. Kenneth B. Barnes, will pastor the Spencer and Colby
Churches. Barnes, who entered the United Methodist ministry in 1956, has served
Wisconsin churches at Blanchardville, Fayette, Gays Mills, Seneca, Barnum, Bell
Center, Exeland, Birchwood, Brunette, Clear Lake, Deer Park, Forest, Cylon,
Augusta and Pleasant Valley. The new pastor is expected this week.
