Heikkinen, Lepi (24 Apr 1898 – 5 Mar 1977)
Mrs. Hjalmer (Lempi) Heikkinen, age 78, Withee, passed away at 1:00 a.m. on
Saturday, March 5, 1977 at the Havenet Nursing Home in Owen, where she had been
a patient for the past three years.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 8, 1977 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bethany
Lutheran Church in Owen, with the Rev. Lloyd Yaggie officiating. Burial followed
in the Riverside Cemetery near Withee.
The former Lempi Raitio was born on April 24, 1898 in Yurva, Finland. She came
to the United States in 1923 and lived here for six years, returning to Finland
in 1929. She returned to De Kalb, Illinois in 1947. She Married Hjalmer
Heikkinen on June 21, 1948, and had resided in Withee until going to the nursing
home in 1974.
Mrs. Heikkinen is survived by her husband, three step-daughters, Mrs. William
(Jennie) Kangas of Owen, Mrs. Celia Struensee of Neillsville, Mrs. Ed (Sigrid)
Brecke Sr. of Stetsonville; two step-sons, Arvid Heikkinen of Milwaukee, and
Toby Heikkinen of Muscatine, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
