Richmond, Barbara Lynn (9 August 1980)
The Rev. Sandee Nelson of Center City, Minnesota, performed the ceremonies at
the wedding of Barbara Lynn Richmond and Philip Aaron Nelson at the United
Methodist Church in Christie on the afternoon of Saturday, August 9.
The Rev. Nelson is a cousin of the groom. Parents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs.
Gale Oldham, Rt. 3, Neillsville and parents, of the groom are Mr. and Mrs. David
Main of Gaylord, Minnesota.
Laurie Richmond, a sister of the bride from Neillsville, was maid of honor. John
Harlander, friend of the groom from Frederic, was bestman. Allen and Kimberly
Oldham, brother and sister of the bride from Neillsville, were ringbearer and
flower girl.
“Oh, Perfect Love” was the special musical selection offered by congregation,
accompanied by Aldys Nelson, an aunt of the groom from Minneapolis.
The bride chose a gown of silest chiffon with embroidered lace, ivory seed
pearls, high neckline and long sheer sleeves. The gown featured a fitted bodice
and a full skirt sweeping into a chapel-length train. Her veil was attached with
a garland of white stephanotis. She carried a bouquet of white glamillias.
Purple violets, blue gypsaphilia, adorned with baby’s breath, spider plant, dumb
cane and Boston fern. Her attendant wore a floor-length, sky blue gown of
Alencon lace and which featured an empire waist, accordion pleated skirt and
shoulder ruffle. She wore a head garland of blue gypsaphilia and carried a fan
of blue azaleas, navy rosebuds and peach freesia. The flower girl wore a lilac
floral floor-length dress and carried a basket of bachelor buttons and violets.
The groom chose a three-piece black tuxedo, and his attendant wore a brown
three-piece suit. The ringbearer had a three-piece navy-blue suit.
Also featured in the ceremonies was Jennifer Main, sister of the groom from
Gaylord, who served as acolyte; and Amy Nelson, a sister of the groom from
Gaylord, serving as a witness.
Following the service, a reception and dinner was held at the bride’s parents’
home, followed by a dance at the Sportsmen’s Club in Granton. The couple then
left on a wedding trip to the Porcupine Mountains of Michigan.
Prenuptial events included a shower hosted by Laurie and Virginia Richmond.
The bride is a 1977 graduate of Neillsville High School and is presently
employed as a ballet teacher and teacher’s Aid for emotionally disturbed
children in Chippewa Falls. The groom is a 1977 graduate of Gaylord High School
and is presently a student at UW-Eau Claire. He is also a bass instructor and a
professional musician. They will make their home in Eau Claire.
