Wellner, John (15 Dec. 1879 - 9 June 1954)
John Wellner, 74, passed away at Victory Memorial Hospital on Wednesday morning at 6:45 following a lingering illness. Born in Manitowoc county on December 15, 1879, he moved to the Town of Edson with his parents in 1883. He married Theresa Smassal at Sacred Heart church in Edson in 1908 and they farmed in Edson until 1942, at which time they retired and moved into Stanley. Mrs. Wellner passed away in 1943. In 1944 he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. Frank Weyenberg, Stanley. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church.
Left to mourn are one daughter, Magdalline (Mrs. Frank Weyenberg) of Stanley; two sons, Frank and Joseph, of Boyd; two brothers, Frank of Chippewa Falls, and Ed. of Gordon; and two sisters, Rose (Mrs. Matt Zimmerman) of Stanley, and Anne (Mrs. John Swatzina) of Boyd.
The body will lie in state at the Plombon Funeral Home from Thursday evening until the time of the funeral. Rev. Ralph Geissler will lead the rosary at the funeral home Friday evening at 8:30. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Mary’s church, Rev. Geissler officiating, at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Nephews will serve as pall bearers.
