Walters, Richard W. (26 April 1901 – 3 February 1988)
Private family services were held Friday, February 5. At Dells Dam Cemetery for
Richard W. Walters, Neillsville, who died following a brief illness on Wednesday
afternoon, February 3, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire. Gesche Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Walters was born in Westboro, on April 26, 1901, the son of William and
Nettie (Green) Walters. After attending elementary school in the Neillsville
area and high school in Minneapolis, MN, he began logging in northern Wisconsin.
Later, he completed course studies at a forestry school in Minnesota and worked
many years for the Minnesota Department of Forestry. He moved to California
working as a carpenter for eight years and then settled in Milwaukee where he
worked until his retirement. In 1967, he moved to Neillsville where he lived the
rest of his life.
On March 10, 1954, he married Priscilla M. Prodzinski at Troy. She survives.
Other survivors are six children, William, Richard, Jr., Mrs. Richard (Betty)
Rhead and John, all of Beloit, Donald of Franklin, and Mrs. William (Elaine) Hon
of Neillsville; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and one great-great
grandchild. His parents predeceased him.
